Newly qualified CMI Foundation Chartered Manager (fCMgr) here 👋 I’ve just come back from my holidays and upon my return I saw a brown envelope in my post, my initial thoughts were ‘oh god what have I done’. However, I was super excited to not find a speeding ticket… but within a personal note from Fern, my level 5 certificate of achievement and an award for my essay writing. Achieving this qualification has been my extracurricular activity for the past year and during my time studying, I’ve learnt so much especially around how I like to practice my management style. (Hint, it’s democratic and value driven) Another massive part was around how we as managers need to think of the people we look after, their personality, how they like to work and a multitude of other areas too. Needless to say this won’t be the end of my extracurricular activities, there are already more planned and I’m super excited to sink my teeth into learning. Thank you Fern B. for facilitating this learning environment, Gemma Williams for giving me the opportunity to study this course and Bellrock Group for investing in their people. Ps - To win an award for my essay writing is a huge thing for me, I’ve always struggled with English, when I was younger I struggled with my b’s and d’s (Example: dring, dribge) and I was taught it as a foreign language. The journey can feel daunting, especially for CAT aspirants who didn’t achieve the results they hoped for. CAT, being a tough exam, has percentile swings that can leap from 80 to 90 with just 3-4 questions. That’s where other entrance tests become critical. In your early 20s, no brave decisions go to waste. In 2021, I toiled 5 months preparing for GMAT. • I quit my job • I moved to a new city • I enrolled in a coaching program • I paid for the expensive GMAT exam twice And yet, despite a GMAT 760/800, I decided NOT to take the MBA route. Did all that effort & investment go to waste? Absolutely NOT! Here’s how I think about it: When I started preparing for GMAT, I saw only 1 option. But during the preparation, I got answers to questions like: • What does life at/after MBA look like? • If not MBA, what other options do I have? • How does life look like with these other options? With this refined information, I saw a much better path I would love to pursue. But, the fact is: I only uncovered this information because I was preparing for the GMAT. (without full clarity on the future). So, here’s the key takeaway: Fearlessly take action with whatever options you have. Cause when you take action, the world rewards you with more options. So what if the action was the wrong move. It’s still a win if the wrong move opens your eyes to the right move! As Hormozi says, “Either you win, or you have an epic story” :)

All I can say is achieving different goals as a mother of a toddler is not that easy. Focusing on what I do and determination has brought me far. Looking back to achieving all these at the age of 24 years but wasn’t possible and took me another 10 years to be getting things done. My first result while studying MSc management and finance in Bangor Business School was worrisonme and I discovered I have to put in a lot in achieving a master degree with other certifications. I said alot to myself: 1. Esther this is not your ability 2. Esther you have never failed before and this should not happen 3. Esther you paid millions as a Nigerian to study in United Kingdom 4. Esther priorities your study and other things can follow 5. Esther having an hyperactive toddler is not your excuse 6. Esther you dispose some of your properties to be here with your husband 7. Esther your husband and people around you believe in you 8. Esther be a good example to your siblings and to people who believes in you 9. Esther your daddy used to be proud of you and could have supported you if he’s still alive. 10. Esther let God announce you. So, when I received congratulatory mail from CMI , I remembered how my first semester result would have break me, how some negativity from course mate could have torn my dream apart. But, I achieved so much milestone during my other semester and I don’t need to say much to people because they kept telling me we heard your stories. I was so positive and trust so much in God and put Him first to take control of my life.
