Hiring salespeople is easy. Right? It must be. All you have to do is make sure they have the right 'sales DNA', an unblemished track record of quota attainment and a deep knowledge about your industry, product and customers. Easy! If you've recently - or ever - had adverts up trying to recruit a sales rep, you'll know how often applicants match this criteria. Almost never. 😢 In the end, you either have some nebulous 'ideal candidate' in mind that you measure everyone against using your gut feelings and value judgements - that almost nobody quite fits. Or you have a sophisticated sales hiring system in place that assesses all available candidates through a robust process to match them against proven and predictable core competencies specific to your business and sales model. The first is what happens most often. Unfortunately. The result is that great sales talent, with amazing potential, passes you by because you're comparing them - in the words of Joe Biden - to the Almighty. The second is a deliberate strategy that #salesenablement can help create in collaboration with #salesleadership, #talentacquisition and #hr. The result is that you find great sales talent because they are being assessed through a methodology free from value judgements, with the best possible match -- maybe not the 'perfect' match -- coming out at the end of that funnel.
