This was our first LP/Fund Team/Portfolio Company mixer. With people located across the globe, it was a little hard to get everyone in the same room - especially when we're still raising.
Thanks to a random encounter at SXSW, I met Joseph Mravca, and he convinced me to add a #poker tournament to enhance a meet + greet. Not only was it entertaining, it allowed our entire fund to come together whilst simultaneously offering a competitive element which had everyone gunning for the top prize. Most of our founders had never played before, but poker adds a lot of soft-skills that can enhance your presence in the board room - and this is especially important when you're an underrepresented founder (check out Poker Power for more info here).
We're looking forward to making this a permanent fixture to our fund networking, because it allowed our founders to share their wins and challenges and engage the entire Chasing Rainbows ecosystem (not just our internal team) to ensure their success.
NB: I want to note here that this was not rigged...lol. I was almost out...but I came back and ended up on top. Just like in the game, I've put everything into Chasing Rainbows, but I wouldn't do it, if the founders we're investing in didn't offer me exceptional upside. If you're interested in learning more about our fund, and more importantly who we're investing in, I'd love to invite you along to an upcoming Poker game...you can sign up for it here: https://lnkd.in/gJ9BUDNP
And you can view the recap video here to see some of the conversations we had during the game: https://lnkd.in/gKkRHxU7
Keeping our Limited Partners aware of our progress and portfolio success is incredibly important as stewards of their capital.
Something else that's important... keeping them ENTERTAINED!
We were super excited to host Chasing Rainbows' inaugural LP & founder meet-up with Cloud Poker Night. Laughs were had, secret poker sharks were discovered, and our LPs had the opportunity to engage with our amazing portfolio companies.
