Made it to Utrecht, Netherlands for the traditional urban design summer school! A great first day with an afternoon excursion around the historic medieval town. Some observations I made from day 1: The first is an example of a two-way street here in Utrecht similar in width to what you'd find in a New Zealand suburb. The visual language of the street is broken up in a way where cars are more aware and careful of their surroundings. This results in naturally slower speeds and a safer environment for pedestrians and cyclists. The second to follow...

#Day 9: Unique City Series Hamburg: A City of Miniature Wonders 🚂✨ During my visit to Hamburg, I discovered a hidden gem that left me in awe—Miniatur Wunderland, the world’s largest model railway exhibition. This miniature marvel was created by twin brothers Frederik and Gerrit Braun, who embarked on this ambitious project in 2000. What makes it unique? Spanning over 16,000 meters of track, the exhibition features meticulously crafted replicas of cities, landscapes, and landmarks from around the world. The project, which began with a vision, has now expanded to include more than 50,000 feet of track, 1,040 trains, and 385,000 figures. To date, the Braun brothers have invested around €21 million in bringing this miniature world to life, constantly adding new sections and details to keep it evolving. Miniatur Wunderland’s day-night cycle creates a magical ambiance, with lights flickering on in tiny cities, giving you a glimpse of a world in motion. It’s a testament to Hamburg’s love for innovation and creativity. Have you ever explored a miniature world that feels so alive? #UniqueCitySeries #HamburgStories #MiniaturWunderland #WorldInMiniature #TravelWithMads #CityInsights #ModelRailwayMagic
