Arlene Dickinson...is a national treasure these days in her straight talk, her voice of reason, and her pragmatism about Canada's challenges and future. Please follow her on LinkedIn, and just...read...minus the anger and conflict bedeviling us these days. Arlene - please continue to be a voice of reason and resolve. Seek the truths that can guidepost our actions to come. Can we please have a million Arlene's please step forward with pragmatic voices to help steer our awesome country in a time of greatest need? We are too many Chamberlain's and not enough Churchill's these days. Resolve for an idea called Canada we can believe in is hard. Bridge-building a common direction is hard. Very few can lead the way...because anger and division is easy and vision and purpose in action is hard - and can be a lonely pursuit. In a time of greatest need, Canada needs some new and perhaps unconventional heroes who can help us shape a new destiny. Leaders step forward. Workaday folks lean in with steady support and resolve - in voices and actions. Our moose, our rivers, our mountains, and our people - from sea to sea to sea, will thank you in perpetuity.

Canada Day: Reimagining Our Shared Future On this Canada Day, we stand at a crossroads of history and possibility. Today, we honor not just a nation, but a vision of what we can become. First and foremost, we acknowledge the Indigenous peoples - First Nations, Métis, and Inuit - whose ancestral lands we occupy. Their millennia of stewardship, wisdom, and resilience form the true foundation of this country. As allies, our role is clear: 1. Listen deeply to Indigenous voices 2. Learn our shared history - both triumphs and tragedies 3. Act decisively for justice and reconciliation This Canada Day, I challenge you: • Identify the traditional territories you're on (native-land.ca) • Support an Indigenous-led organization in your community • Commit to one concrete action advancing reconciliation in your sphere of influence True patriotism isn't about flags or fireworks. It's about fostering a nation where every person's dignity is upheld, where historical wrongs are addressed, and where diverse cultures flourish side by side. The path forward isn't always easy, but it's necessary. It requires courage to confront uncomfortable truths, humility to learn, and determination to create change. So today, let's celebrate not what Canada has been, but what it can become. A country that truly honors its First Peoples, embraces its diversity, and leads globally in justice and reconciliation. What's your commitment to this vision of Canada? #ReconciliationIsPersonal #EveryChildMatters #DecolonizeCanadaDay Together, we can transform this day from a celebration of the past into a powerful catalyst for a more just and inclusive future.

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause as a nation to recognize the immense suffering and injustices endured by Indigenous peoples in Canada. Today offers a moment to reflect on the painful history of residential schools, the loss of countless lives, and the lasting trauma still felt by survivors and their families. We pay tribute to the incredible resilience, strength, and wisdom of Indigenous communities who have carried this weight through generations. In this spirit, we renew our commitment to truth, justice, and genuine reconciliation. It's a reminder that we must actively listen, learn, and take meaningful steps to confront the systemic inequalities that persist. This day calls on all of us to help create a more just and equitable Canada—one that fully recognizes and respects Indigenous rights, cultures, and languages. As we reflect on the past, let us move forward with purpose, working toward a future shaped by understanding, compassion, and solidarity.

Learning new perspectives about immigration in Canada
In 2023 we assisted City of London, Canada “Newcomers Day” event as part of our pre-development research, and we asked around about the challenges immigrants face when they come to London, Canada. Here it’s one of the answers: “I think the biggest challenge for immigrants is communication so finding a way to connect with the other people in their new home and environment and fostering good connections.” (watch the video for the full answer) https://lnkd.in/grNcypnP Pathways to Prosperity Partnership City of London, Canada Western University Victoria Esses RBC Place London London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) Film London Ontario Andrew Dodd Tourism London (Ontario, Canada) Cory Crossman Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada / Immigration, Réfugiés et Citoyenneté Canada Canada's Music Incubator Vel Omazic Gianna Antonacci Newcomers Canada Canadian Newcomers Network Ontario Creates Canada Media Fund | Fonds des médias du Canada Bell Media John Galway Dorothy Downs Forest City Film Festival Chad Courneya Stingray JEFF ANDREW PETER London & Middlesex LIP WebSeries Canada Leah Rifkin #newcomersday #newcomerscanada #immigrationchallengescanada #arrivance #arrivanceajourneyofresilience #documentary #shortdocumentaries #docuseries #shortdocumentaryseries #immigration #immigrationcanada #cityoflondonontario #londonontario Felipe Giaj-Levra Heloisa Caravina Raimundo Rocha Neto Paula Vergara Federico Pereanez

Canada proudly embraces a thriving Caribbean-Canadian community of over 800,000, with more than half residing in Ontario, exemplifying the nation's rich tapestry. The Caribbean's 42 distinct nations have transformed their painful history of colonialism, slavery, and indentured servitude into a vibrant cultural mosaic, weaving together Amerindian, African, Asian, South American, and European ancestries, and six official languages. This remarkable heritage shines through the Caribbean Heritage Month symbol and flag. Caribbean-Canadians have forged lasting bonds with Canada since the 1700s, making profound contributions across various sectors, from science and education to arts and culture. October marks a pivotal month, commemorating the Immigration Act's 1967 amendments and the 1971 Multiculturalism Policy, which welcomed Caribbean individuals to build a life in Canada. Today, Caribbean-Canadians continue to enrich Ontario's social, economic, and cultural landscape, cementing its status as a multicultural haven. By proclamation, October is declared Caribbean Heritage Month, celebrating this enduring legacy.
