The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a significant weather alert for Pakistan. Predictive modeling indicates intense cloud bursts from the eastern Indian side, which could lead to moderate to heavy rainfall in the upper catchments of major rivers, including Sutlej, Ravi, and Chenab, starting from July 2, 2024. Along with this, there is a warning for lightning in South and Central Punjab and Islamabad from July 5-7. This weather event may cause rapid rises in water levels, flash flooding, and urban flooding. The NDMA advises the public to stay vigilant, follow local authority instructions, and download the ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’ app for updates. #NDMAAlert #FloodWarning #CheckItNow #HeavyRainfall #PakistanWeather #ClimateEmergency #FloodRisk #WeatherUpdate #DisasterManagement #PublicSafety #PakNDMA #WeatherAlert

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning about possible monsoon rains, winds, and thundershowers from July 28 to 31. Monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are expected to impact the upper regions of Pakistan during this period. The NDMA has directed all relevant agencies to take necessary precautions to minimize the potential impact of flooding and severe weather. This weather system could cause landslides, mudslides, and falling boulders, which may disrupt roadways in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Galiyat, Murree, Gilgit Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K). Flash flooding is also possible in local nullahs, with hill torrents likely to occur in the Sulaiman and Kirthar Ranges, as well as in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur. The public is advised to avoid floodwaters and seek safer locations away from flood-prone areas. Even six inches of moving water can knock a person over, and one foot of water can sweep away a vehicle. Bridges can become dangerous during floods and should be avoided if water is flowing rapidly. To provide timely alerts and safety guidelines, the NDMA has launched the 'Pak NDMA Disaster Alert' app, available on Google Play Store and iOS App Store. . . . . . . . #Initiatemagazine #initiate #initiator #nationaldisastermanagement #disaster #metrologicaldepartment #weatherupdate #flood #floodwarnign #hurricane

Pakistan experienced its wettest April in over six decades, with a record-breaking 59.3 millimeters of rainfall, surpassing the average of 22.5 millimeters for the month. This excessive rainfall led to devastating consequences, including at least 144 fatalities, primarily caused by thunderstorms and house collapses. The unprecedented rainfall highlighted the country's vulnerability to unpredictable weather patterns, which are expected to worsen with the arrival of monsoon rains in July. The severe weather conditions underscore the ongoing challenges in managing natural disasters and mitigating their impact on communities and infrastructure. The recent flooding has put a strain on emergency services, with many areas still reeling from the destruction. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned of increased flooding risks, landslides, and thunderstorms, emphasizing the need for enhanced preparedness and disaster management strategies. The government and local authorities are working to provide relief and support to affected communities, but the scale of the disaster demands sustained efforts to build resilience against future extreme weather events. As the monsoon season approaches, Pakistan must prioritize disaster preparedness and infrastructure development to minimize the impact of unpredictable weather patterns on its citizens and economy. . . . #PakistanWeather #WettestApril #RainfallRecord #FloodsInPakistan #DisasterManagement #MonsoonPreparedness #ClimateChange #tribunetrends

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Punjab of Punjab has issued a warning about potential flooding in the province's rivers over the next 24 hours, with high alert levels for certain areas. The PDMA spokesperson has indicated that there is a risk of a high-level flood in the Marala, Khanki, and Qadirabad areas along the Chenab River. Floodwater in the Chenab River is projected to increase significantly, from 200,000 cusecs to 250,000 cusecs. The water level at Qadirabad Barrage on the Chenab is rising quickly due to water release by India, prompting the PDMA to advise residents in these areas to move to safer locations. Additionally, the Ravi River is expected to have a water flow ranging from 40,000 to 55,000 cusecs at Jassar and Shahdara, leading the PDMA to issue a low-level flood warning for these areas. #Punjab #FloodWarning #PDMA #Alert #Chenab #RaviRiver #FloodSafety #DisasterManagement #FloodRisk #Emergency #Preparedness #RiverLevels #Cohortmax

In our country, which is considered a third world country unfortunately, we don't have any long term plans for the floods. Every year we face the massive flood which is killing hundreds and thousands of people. Also, it's affecting our economy and daily life badly. What we can do is plan which can be done on our individual basis. If we can build structures that are resilient for the natural disasters and have a proper design for the drainage and rain water, we cannot just save the precious human lives but also economic losses too. https://lnkd.in/e289HsBa

This week, parts of Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and eastern Punjab provinces experienced heavy rains, with many low-lying areas flooded. NCDMA has asked provincial disaster management authorities and district administrations to closely monitor the situation and take appropriate measures to protect vulnerable people, according to the report. The public has been advised to take precautionary measures while travelling to landslide-prone areas.
