A PRIMER ON MEMES FOR OLD GUYS Let’s say you’re an old guy and confused about the ‘demure’ thing. Remember how in the late 90s every dude was constantly going ‘wazzzzzzzzup’? Or how you’re still making ‘my wife’ jokes in Borat voice? Remember planking? This is *exactly* the same thing. People see a thing, they think it’s funny (or endearing or whatever), they repeat it. Others see them (or imagine them to be) having fun with their friends doing/saying the thing and start participating. After enough time and/or distance, the point of origin is lost (or ceases to matter) and the signifier floats freely, to be used in a variety of contexts. All that’s different now is that the memes come from people on TikTok instead of commercials, movies, and TV shows. I posted this video on TikTok a couple of months ago and it’s received 1.3M views. It was reposted on Instagram by @jeffthewealthbuilder where it’s received another 1.3M views. The crazy thing is, I almost didn’t even make it. When I got the idea I wasn’t at my recording studio and I almost let that deter me from bringing this idea to life. Then after I recorded and edited it on my phone, I didn’t like the quality. So I almost didn’t post it. The truth is, this video isn’t very well produced but the message resonated with people. And 2.6M views later it’s still making an impact. How often do we delay our ideas because the “conditions aren’t perfect” and so we wait and procrastinate until our idea becomes a distant memory that never came to life? I want to encourage you today to take action on your creative ideas! Waiting for the perfect moment, the perfect plan, or the perfect conditions can be a paralyzing trap that keeps us from realizing our goals. Honestly, there’s rarely an ideal time for anything. The magic happens when we take action despite imperfections. Toyota North America you need to partner with creator/ musician @kristenncruz immediately. This video of her organically talking about her love for her indestructible Prius that she will have for life is perfection. Start a long-term relationship with her. Do a content series. Boost this content then have her make new original content in her Prius. She’s an artist, have her sing about her beloved Prius in her Prius. This has to happen quickly though can’t wait a month I would boost it tomorrow… new content within next two weeks. Brands need to move quick in order to join the organically viral brand moments and conversations effectively. Especially for brands that aren’t really talked about too often.
