I am honored to introduce our 2024 Chegg.org Global Student Prize winner, Ángela Elena Olazarán Laureano! Ángela’s work to make healthcare accessible to impoverished communities through technology and her advocacy for girls in STEM made her stand out from the 11,000 nominations and applications we received this year—and a worthy recipient of our $100,000 prize.
Ángela is a Computer Science student at the National College of Technical Professional Education (CONALEP) in Papantla de Olarte, Veracruz, Mexico. At just 17 years old, Ángela helped create a prize-winning AI-powered virtual medical assistant that can currently diagnose 21 diseases based on a series of questions. The tool aims to help people living in remote areas or long distances from a medical center. Ángela has also spoken out on the importance of incorporating STEM education in the Mexican curriculum and across Latin America.
Ángela’s inspiring work and advocacy are proof that innovative thinking, combined with the power of tech and a limitless attitude, can transcend boundaries and change communities for the better. I stand in awe of what Angela has accomplished and want to congratulate Ángela on this well-deserved recognition. Thank you for your commitment to making a positive difference!
