Thanks Tim Joyce for inviting me to watch some of your #materials #design and #manufacturing #mechanicalengineering, #aerospaceengineering & #civilengineering students' 'Year in Industry' presentations this week. It was very clear to see that they have amplified their chances of #highlevel graduate #employment significantly! Well done to all involved. Some Key Messages from Students: 👀 Making mistakes in the workplace gives you a massive learning curve. 👄 Doing a Year in Industry placement hones your communication skills significantly - you learn how to really talk to people/network and ask questions! Your confidence improves so much and the idea of getting a graduate job seems so much less terrifying. 🥅 Setting goals at the beginning of your placement helps keep you focused on why you're there and what you want to achieve. 🧠 The theory you've learned so far at university starts to make much more sense when you get to apply it in the workplace. Then what you learn in practice in the workplace helps you with the theory in your final year. #winwin 📑 #LinkedInLearning is great for learning #Excel properly, including #shortcuts that save so much time - and it comes in so handy in some placements! Same goes for #softskills courses like 'How to get the most out of your mentoring skills'. 👷♀️ 👷♂️ Get #onsite as much as you can and as soon as you can! You will learn so many things you didn't know you didn't know... 👨🎓 👩🎓 Bright futures ahead for these brilliant students!
