💭 Thinking about starting a contract role? Here are 10 questions to ask before you start! 1. What is the end date?/ How long is the contract for? 2. Is this role open to convert to a perm role? 3. Is there a tenure rule with this company? If so, how long can I stay and how long do I have to be out of the company before I can return? 4. What are the hours? 5. How will I be paid? (Will it be PAYE or an umbrella company?) 6. Why is this role open? 7. Will I be working alone or in a team? 8. Are there any benefits to this contract role? 9. Is it a remote role? If so, who's providing the equipment? 10. Will I be paid for any hours worked over 40 hours per week? ⬇️ Would you add any others? #ContractJobs #ContractRecruitment #Recruitment

Hiring a contractor is not unlike hiring an employee. You’ll be trusting this person with your financial investment and a great deal of your time, and (unlike most employees), you’ll be trusting this person with your home as well. General contractors should be experienced, insured, and able to provide references. They should also be respectful of your space and time—they will, afterall, be in your home for an extended period of time.

Small to mid-size law firms are hiring! We've seen a huge uptick in demand especially for permanent associates across practice areas and firm size. If you are a small or mid-size law firm partner with a growing firm, keep in mind that legal hiring outside the AmLaw 200 requires a perspective shift! Hiring is essential to growing your firm, so make sure you are set up with success and keep the following in mind: Legal Skills + Soft Skills > Pedigree 🤝 : We know that the legal industry loves to rely on things like GPA, law school ranking, and other indicators to predict performance, however, research tells us that these stats probably more reliably predict income potential than performance. As a small to mid-size firm, it's not in your interest to compete with AmLaw salaries. Instead focus on specific legal skills, soft skills, and work ethic. Find Your Flexibility 🤸♀️ : If you aren't in a position to pay top-of-market salaries, then you have to find other value to provide candidates. Consider a hybrid working schedule or other work-life balance benefits. If you require 5 days in the office, increase your base salary expectations because most candidates are looking for at least one WFH day per week now. Keep an Open Mind 🧠 : Consider other solutions to your growing billable work like outsourcing back office work, hiring fractional talent, or bringing on a temp to perm associate. All of these are better alternatives to letting a job requirement sit open for months or even years while you turn away work waiting for that "perfect" candidate. If you are struggling to find the right candidate for your firm and want to talk about a custom solution for your firm, let us know and we'd be happy to help! https://lnkd.in/efCkT7Sf #mlaglobal #hireanesquire #smalllawfirm

I’ve been rejected for probably a dozen jobs during my career, where the feedback was essentially, “We’re looking for someone with just a liiiiiiiitle bit more experience in this ooooone specific area.” Though it was a position I have total confidence I’d have excelled at, and given my all to, I was overlooked for it, only to see the same company posting the same role 3-6 months down the road. This summer, it’s been more like 2-3 weeks later! Investing in your people begins during the interview process. View each and every candidate as a potential for your team to grow *with them* and you will seldom find yourselves frustrated with the level of candidates you attract. View each candidate as a potential failure, and that is eventually the culture you will have internally, too.
**Attention Hiring Managers** Do not hire 110% of what you need today because the market it in your favor and wonder why people are jumping ship in a few months when the tide turns to the job seeker's favor. When I was hired and trained as a Recruiter a million years ago (1999) I was taught the 2/3rds rule. If a candidate has at least 2/3rds of the "requirements" you should still present them to the employer. Some "requirements" are more required than others. If you hire someone that can do 100% of your job on day one what is in it for them on day two other than a paycheck. People want to learn and grow. Keep in mind, the longer you retain your current staff the less often you are paying someone like me to replace them. That is my public service announcement for the day.
