Wine Importers and Wine Import Trends in Canada 2024 When Canadians raise a glass of wine it’s mostly likely an imported brand and that’s partly because the domestic wine industry remains too small to supply one of the top 10 wine importers in the world. This is good news for the producers interested in the Canadian market, but the good news tends to stop here because working with the highly regulated Canadian wine importers can be a huge challenge, especially for smaller companies. One of the most exciting markets revealed through our research for this report is Thailand. Among the top importers we have profiled from the southeast asian country, all reported sales growth with majority reporting double digit growths in sales, with the exception of one who traditionally relied on Bordeaux. To put it in perspective, despite Thailand’s economy being less than one-third the size of China’s, the country’s largest wine importer, within just a few years, has grown to achieve turnover —on par with China’s biggest fine wine importer, ASC Fine Wines, in 2023. Find out more details in our report. For each of the company we have handpicked, its profile includes company size, staff number, portfolio, distribution channels, latest sales revenue in addition to key contact details. Wine consumption and sales in China's Guangdong province is often much watched. The affluent province, bordering Hong Kong and an integral part to the success of Greater Bay Area, has the country's highest GDP and arguably most mature wine market, given its early exposure to foreign trade. Wine sales in the province has plummeted to RMB 1.9 billion (US$262.9 million) last year, a year-on-year decrease of 36.6%, according to data released from the province’s official wine and drinks body. To put it in perspective, the extent of contraction now means that the province’s total wine sales is just about 5% of its total Baijiu sales. Did you know that Vietnam is one of the wine markets expected to show the greatest change in value, behind India, China and USA. The other markets expected to show the greatest change in value might surprise you! With rumblings about market failure in the wine sector (see here 👉🏻 https://lnkd.in/gP_wVUaX), it begs the question: Could the biggest growth regions for Australian wine, or indeed alcohol brands in general, lie in export? #export #beverages #wine #emergingmarkets #drinks

Australian wine producers are taking on the challenge of re-engaging with the Chinese market now that the duties on Australian wine have been removed. However, it won't be an easy task as wine consumption and imported wine have both dropped by around 70% over the past 5 years. With a surplus of 450 million litres, the industry will have to either reshape the Chinese wine market or restructure their own industry. This decrease in wine consumption and surplus is presently the reality all over the world, and whatever happens with Australian wine can certainly happen to other wine regions. It's a pivotal moment for the Australian wine industry and the global wine market.
