Help inspire STEM confidence in middle school and high school students from underrepresented groups! https://lnkd.in/g6TSk8cT Apply for the 10th year of the Society for Science Advocate Program, which provides a $3,000 stipend and training to an individual (teacher, scientist, counselor, or mentor) who agrees to serve as an advocate for a minimum of 3 additional students from traditionally underrepresented groups to transition them from conducting scientific or engineering research (science fair-type) projects to completing applications to STEM research competitions. Many students doing science research are not aware of the myriad of opportunities that are attainable by submitting their work to competitions. Just completing the rigorous application process can inspire confidence in their scientific abilities and lead them to consider a STEM career. Many competitions provide monetary awards for post-secondary education and can boost a student's chance of acceptance into the college or university of their choice. Too few students from traditionally underrepresented groups are presented with these opportunities and often lack the know-how to successfully enter. Advocates must already have a formal role with students completing research projects. This program is sponsored by Arconic Foundation, Intel, the Central Intelligence Agency, and Regeneron. They are, however, often depicted as only suitable for students gravitating towards numbers, computers, experiments, and equations. This is not the case. To combat these stereotypes, Generation STEM has launched #WithSTEMYouCan, a movement that showcases STEM professionals from diverse backgrounds and experiences. It also aims to demystify the relevance or transferability of STEM skills, such as creativity, problem-solving and teamwork and draw in parents and industry to encourage students to explore career paths based on passions and capabilities. Today we launch the new Science Education Tracker in partnership with The Royal Society. It raises concerns about a decline in student interest in STEM and highlights a significant gender gap. Just 16% of girls believe engineering is a good fit for them, compared to nearly two-thirds of boys. Only 12% of girls see themselves as engineers. And 36% of girls feel that science isn't for them. The findings are a wake-up call for the engineering community to step up. We must do even more to showcase the diverse and exciting opportunities available. It's critical that all young people have access to engaging and practical STEM education to cultivate future generations of scientists, technologists and engineers. Impact of STEM education on society: STEM education, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, is a crucial field that fosters critical thinking, creativity, and innovation. It provides students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving technological world. STEM education emphasizes hands-on learning, problem-solving, and collaboration, preparing students for future careers in fields such as robotics, computer science, biotechnology, and environmental science. By engaging students in STEM education, we are not only preparing them for the jobs of tomorrow but also empowering them to become the innovators and leaders who will tackle the challenges of the future.

This week the #scienceeducationtracker report came out as a result of partnership between EngineeringUK and The Royal Society. Very concerning to see that there has been a reduction in opportunities for young people to do practical #science, and yet these opportunities for practicals seem to be particularly important for less engaged students. At the same time interest in science has declined and this seems to be more accentuated among girls. Despite pouring my efforts into honing my skills and contributing to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, the repeated rejections I’ve faced paint a discouraging picture. Each rejection serves as a stark reminder that my presence may not be valued as I had hoped within this industry. It’s disheartening to feel overlooked and unappreciated despite my dedication and passion for STEM. In the face of these challenges, I’m forced to confront the harsh reality of my situation. These rejections are more than just setbacks; they’re indications that I may need to reconsider my path within STEM. I’m using this time of reflection to delve deeper into my aspirations and assess whether my skills and passions align with the opportunities available in this field. While it’s a difficult process, I’m determined to emerge from it with a clearer understanding of where I belong and how I can make a meaningful impact.

The unemployed state and our responses: (The suggestion is universal) Throughout our general upbringing and education we all are trained by very generic models about the life ahead of us. It is due to the fact that life is too complex and fairly unpredictable. This being said it us always a mix of the upbringing, education, the application and the ability to withstand the uncertainties what the career and life are all about. You may try the following and it may be helpful: 1. Get ahead in career with zero expectations from the job applications and interviews in line for future. 2. Always remain less anxious as time approaches for a job interview. 3. Connect your job searches with your lifelong convictions of general good. You may have some pledges to serve a cause. Start practising that altruistic work for your own inner and outer healing in the surroundings. 4. Create the ability to shed your older skin at the slightest opportunity. This goes true with your negative experiences and their effects on the body and soul together. 5. Check if you feel a positive energy in your mind and body during morning and evening. 6. Iterate from 1 till 6 continously with any sequence till you feel a positive energy inside and outside of yours. 7. If yes, at 6! You are already out of the vicious circle then you have won 🏆. If No, then, please check the steps from 1 through 6! 8. If any of these steps are missed by you or unable to implement in your daily life routine, try it in a different sequence and check again. 9. One step about the longterm altruistic goal/faith/spiritualism: This may be a variant between individuals; if you are new to it? Take long time to adopt to it as it may cure your ways hugely! 10. By this time our algorithm of success has reached an advanced stage and had hopefully started bearing small, medium and large size fruits in our lives. Continues...
