Methane gas is responsible for about 30% of the global warming that has occurred since the Industrial Revolution. On current trends, total methane emissions from human activities could increase by up to 13% between 2020 and 2030, but under scenarios that limit warming to 1.5°C, they should decrease by 30-60% in the same interval. The Global Methane Pledge aims to reduce global methane emissions by at least 30% from 2020 to 2030 levels – and has more than 150 signatories. Commitments can be achieved through improved monitoring and reporting of emissions, further technological innovation to generate large-scale solutions. In this regard, the World Bank plans to launch at least 15 national methane reduction programs in the next 18 months. #FironBarNir #attorneys #legal #advisory #environment #compliance

We're facing a new big challenge in our fight against climate change: "carbon bombs." These are huge fossil fuel projects that could push us past the safe limits of global warming. With 2023 being the hottest year on record, it's a wake-up call that we need to speed up our actions to tackle climate change. The article written by Benjamin Kurylo highlights this critical issue, pointing out over 400 big projects that could release more than a thousand gigatons of CO2. This is way more than the safe limit of just 500 gigatons left for us. The article reveals how countries like the United States, China, Russia, and Saudi Arabia are leading with projects that seriously risk going over our 1.5°C warming goal. Even though there's a worldwide push to cut down emissions, the truth is, there's still a lot of fossil fuel extraction going on, making us question how committed these countries and their companies really are. It also talks about how big money plays a part in these carbon bombs, with major banks and companies worldwide investing in these harmful projects. Despite big promises from these financial giants to reach net-zero emissions, their actions show they're not quite there yet. After the so-so results of the COP28 summit, the article suggests we need a strong global agreement similar to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty to finally stop fossil fuel exploration and switch to renewable energy. This idea highlights how urgent and important it is for us to work together to move away from fossil fuels and ensure a safe future for everyone. Let's dive into this important analysis and see how we can work together to tackle and stop the threat of carbon bombs. The fight against global warming is more urgent than ever. #ClimateAction #GlobalWarming #SaveOurPlanet

Despite international commitments to reduce methane emissions, including the Global Methane Pledge which aims for a 30% reduction by 2030, current trends are worrying. - The Global Methane Budget 2024 (Data 2000–2020) was released and offers a comprehensive analysis of methane trends and their implications for climate change. - With methane being the second biggest human-made contributor to global warming after carbon dioxide, the findings highlight the urgent need for targeted emission reduction strategies. - The Global Methane Budget 2024 report reveals that human activities are now responsible for at least two-thirds of global methane emissions. - This marks a significant increase in human-produced methane sources over the past two decades, with emissions rising by 20%, with the fastest rise occurring over the last five years.

DID YOU KNOW THAT The Kyoto Protocol, adopted in 1997, lists six greenhouse gases (GHGs) and groups them into three categories, known as basket gases? These include1. Carbon dioxide (CO2)2. Methane (CH4)3. Nitrous oxide (N2O)Furthermore, the Kyoto Protocol also includes three groups of gases covered by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) that have an indirect global warming effect:4. Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)5. Perfluorocarbons (PFCs)6. Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) It's worth noting that carbon dioxide is the most common and highly released into the atmosphere.it's high time we learnt about and the effects of these in order to preserve nature andof the next generation. Carbon Brief projects that if Trump wins the election, it could lead to an additional 4 billion tonnes of US emissions compared to #Biden’s plans. 🇺🇲 4bn tonnes 🤯 To put this in perspective: 4 billion tonnes of #CO2emissions is equal to the combined annual emissions of the EU and Japan. 🇪🇺 🇯🇵 Or.. the total annual emissions of the world's 140 lowest-emitting countries combined. 😵 This would cancel out the emissions reductions achieved globally through the use of clean technologies, such as wind and solar, over the past five years - #twice... Of course, these numbers depend on many factors, such as economic growth and whether he can halt or even reverse Biden's policies. But as Carbon Brief put it: “Regardless of the precise impact, a second Trump term that successfully dismantles Biden’s climate legacy would likely end any global hopes of keeping global warming below 1.5C.” Does this mean that Biden is doing perfectly? No, not at all. Although the projections don’t take into consideration any future policies coming from Biden, it’s pretty clear he needs to step up his game as well. I am definitely watching the election outcomes in November. You?

A new report by Oil Change International criticizes the climate pledges of major oil companies, saying they are not aligned with limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. The report examined plans from eight of the world's largest oil and gas producers and found that none of them were sufficient. The companies also plan to extract more oil and gas, which could lead to more than 2.4 degrees Celsius of warming. The report's authors say that the companies are not taking serious action to curb emissions and are instead relying on unproven methods like carbon capture and storage. The report was endorsed by more than 200 climate groups internationally.
