“I nearly ended up washing dishes in a restaurant due to card issues." As the sun set over the Arabian Sea, I sat savoring a delicious Goan dinner at a beachside restaurant. The evening had been perfect, but as I reached for my wallet to pay, my heart sank. I had only brought cash, forgetting that many places here preferred digital transactions. The restaurant didn't accept cash, and no ATMs were nearby. Feeling stranded, I started to panic. Just then, a random stranger (Indian) from a nearby table noticed my distress. Without a moment's hesitation, he used his phone to pay my bill through his UPI app. He turned to me with a reassuring smile and said, "No worries, just download the CheqUPI (YC S23) and send me the amount whenever you can."A UPI service only for foreigners. Now I don’t fear eating in any restaurant.I have stopped using card.My life is sorted now.I highly recommend giving CheqUPI (YC S23) a try. BIGGEST RUBBERY AT THE SUPER MARKET COUNTER IN 2024 There is something going on In most of the BIG supermarket in Nigeria. I don't know if you have noticed it too? I went to the Supermarket with Shalewa yesterday and as I was selecting the things am buying, I was calculating it cos I had a budget not to spend more than a particular amount. So everything I calculated was 27k. On getting to the counter, the Girl at the counter scanned all the items and I gave her my ATM card. I was surprised to see 31k on my print out recept which has been deducted from my account. Immediately I told her I want to see the manager and I took the matter up with them and we calculated everything manually together and the manager saw that it was 27k, so how did 27k turn to 31k? This is a day light Robb£ry and am not going accept it and in the cause of my drama at the supermarket. 3 other persons also calculated their items manually and saw that they were overcharged. The manager was begging that Mr Atanda Olatunji, it was a mistake. Is the manager trying to tell me that their machine is making error to overcharge Customers ? I have evidences from the other 3 people and have gotten their contacts as they promised me that they are ready for this case. Cos their own over charging is even much more than my own. Pls, start calculating things you buy in those BIG supermarket manually before you get to the counter. We must fish out those Supermarket that over charge people this New Year. I will be happy if you can share this post to create more awareness, because once many people are aware of this Fr@ud by the supermarkets, people will start calculating manually and we will know those Supermarket that are doing wayo. ~COPIED

"Do you know that you can opt out of paying service charges at restaurants? Let’s empower ourselves with the knowledge of our rights and make informed choices. #ConsumerRights #ServiceCharge #India #KnowYourRights #DiningOutSmart" 🛑 Are You Paying Unnecessary Service Charges at Restaurants? 🛑 Have you ever looked at your restaurant bill and noticed a "service charge"? Many of us assume it's mandatory, but did you know that in India, paying this charge is actually *voluntary*? According to guidelines from the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), no restaurant or hotel can force you to pay the service charge. So, the next time you dine out, feel free to ask the manager to remove this charge if you’re not satisfied with the service. Here's how you can do it politely: 1. Stay Calm and Respectful: Politely ask the manager to explain the service charge and mention that you’re aware it’s voluntary. 2. Be Informed: Reference the CCPA guidelines, which state that the service charge is not mandatory. 3. Request a Revised Bill: Ask if the charge can be removed from the bill and request a new one. This isn’t just about saving a few bucks—it's about exercising your rights as a consumer. Let's stay informed and ensure we pay only for what we receive!

Paying extra to swap for a cold drink in a local restaurant is a very Hong Kong thing. This summer, we noticed that fewer people were opting to "swap for a cold drink," perhaps reflecting the tough economic situation, leading everyone to think twice about their spending. Every credit card offer is about either miles, points or cashback, and their only difference is the number. We want to transform the WeWa card's 6% cashback into an offer that everyone immediately understands and brings a smile to their face - for a meal costing $60, using the WeWa card to split the bill instantly earns you $60 x 6% = $3.6, effectively making your cold drink free. So WeWa card gives you the freedom and joy of a cold drink during the hot summer days, even in tough economic times. I was scammed! On my way to a meeting at the Lagos Business School (LBS) on Wednesday, July 31st, 2024, I encountered heavy traffic along the Lekki–Ajah Road. Traffic jams always make me feel sick and sometimes weak, so I usually grab something sugary, like a soft drink, to feel better. When I felt the need for a sugar rush, I decided to buy a cold Coke or Pepsi. The last time I checked, a bottle was N350, which is also the price at my store. You can imagine my shock when the vendor told me the price was N400. After paying and voicing my surprise, the driver remarked, “Madam, that’s the price they are selling it now everywhere.” It's disheartening to see the price of soft drinks like Coca-Cola and Pepsi rise to N400 in Nigeria. This cost hike is more than just a number; it reflects the broader economic challenges facing the country. For many, a cold bottle of these drinks was once an affordable treat, a small pleasure amid daily hustle and bustle. With prices climbing, it's becoming a luxury rather than an accessible option for the average Nigerian. This change is symbolic of the inflation and cost of living increases that are squeezing wallets across the nation, making even simple joys harder to come by. The situation underscores the pressing need for economic stability and measures to curb inflation, ensuring that basic goods remain within reach for everyone. The frustration didn't end there. After paying the N400, I discovered that the drink I bought was fake. Immediately after opening it, I sensed something was wrong. I performed three different tests, and the results confirmed my suspicions; the drink was unfit for consumption. I even took it back to the office and later home, where further tests were conducted before finally discarding the content. This experience not only highlights inflation and economic difficulties but also raises serious concerns about the quality control and authenticity of products in the market. It's disheartening that a once-affordable and reliable treat is now fraught with such issues, making it not just a luxury but also a gamble. I can imagine the frustration of the Coca-Cola and Pepsi Cola companies whose genuine efforts are being jeopardized and exposed by these unscrupulous elements who wants to reap from other people's work by making and selling fake products. I encourage the organizations to keep Partnering with relevant agencies to bring the perpetrators to book to drastically reduce if not eliminate this menace and continue to retain consumers trust in their brand. This situation underscores the urgent need for stronger regulatory measures to protect consumers and ensure they get value for their money in these challenging times. I'm curious to hear other people's experiences, kindly share in the comments section and also tell us the easiest ways to identify fake soft drinks. #economy #finance #Nigeria #20daylinkedinchallengewithhaoma #business #consumerprotection #inflation #softdrinks

- The Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) clarifies that the 8% Sindh Sales Tax (SST) on restaurant services paid through digital methods (debit cards, credit cards, mobile wallets, QR scanning) is still in effect. - Recent reports suggesting the withdrawal of this reduced tax rate are incorrect. - Restaurants wanting to charge the higher 15% SST for digital payments must get permission from SRB. - Currently, only 58 out of over 1700 registered restaurants have received this permission. - Customers should check the applicable SST rate on the SRB website or ask the restaurant for proof of SRB permission before dining. - More details can be found on the SRB website: https://lnkd.in/d6FtwZeF #SindhRevenueBoard #SST #DigitalPayments #RestaurantTax #TaxCompliance
