Mission United is a vital initiative by United Way Greater Houston that serves those who have served and their families. As the second-largest veteran population in the United States, the Greater Houston area is home to over 300,000 veterans. I’ve accepted the duty to serve as chairperson for the Mission United Network!
The network aims to address these challenges by providing a coordinated network of services. Here’s how it works:
One Call: Veterans, active-duty military members, and their families can make a single call to connect with a veteran services specialist.
Unmet Needs and Collaboration: Mission United Network meetings bring together veteran service providers. These gatherings facilitate networking, education, collaboration, and information exchange. By identifying unmet needs and gaps in services, providers can enhance support for veterans and their families in the Greater Houston Area.
Monthly Meetings: The Mission United Network meets monthly on the last Thursday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
If you’re part of a veteran organization or an agency supporting veterans, I encourage you to consider joining the Mission United Network.

📢Press Release: IE Veterans Struggle to Find Existing Benefits and Services Across Vast Region, According to New Report
📜#IECF announced the release of a new study examining the existing benefits and services available for military veterans and their families in the Inland Empire. The study, titled the "IE State of Veterans Report," and commissioned by the Friends of Veterans Fund at IECF, sheds light on the challenges IE veterans face when seeking programs, resources, and organizations and the call for a more inclusive and responsive system to their evolving needs.
🟦“This report comes at a crucial juncture in our ongoing efforts to care for our Veterans,” said Rep. Mark Takano (D-Riverside). “With countless heroes returning from deployments around the world and making the Inland Empire their home, we must remain vigilant in addressing their needs.”
🟥Added Mayor of Riverside Patricia Lock Dawson, “In partnership with our neighboring cities in the Inland Empire, we recognize the importance of a united effort in addressing the challenges our Veterans face and enhancing the benefits and services available to them.”

The Veteran suicide crisis in the U.S. is a stark reality, with rates significantly higher than those of the general population—even among student veterans. Transitioning from military to campus life can present unique challenges, making peer support more crucial than ever.
Research shows that veterans are often more comfortable confiding in fellow service members. A simple Buddy Check—whether over coffee or between classes—can be a lifeline.
Yesterday kicked off Buddy Check Week; a national movement that encourages veterans to connect with one another. Take a moment this week to reach out. Let’s stand together and ensure that no veteran feels alone.

Today marks the start of Veteran Buddy Check Week, running from October 21-25, 2024! 🚨
This week is dedicated to strengthening peer-to-peer connections among Veterans, reducing isolation, and increasing access to vital VA resources. We honor the trust and bonds forged during service by encouraging Veterans and their families to take the #TalkToTen pledge. Reach out to 10 fellow Veterans—check in, catch up, and ensure they have the support they deserve.
At A-G Associates, our commitment to the well-being of Veterans extends beyond our work supporting the Military, Veteran, and Family (MVF) community. As an SDVOSB with almost half of our employees sharing a deep personal tie to the military-affiliated community, we understand the power of connection. This week, we encourage everyone to take just a few moments of time to reach out to someone who may need it. With just a phone call, a text, or a simple act of kindness, we can make a difference - and maybe even save a life. 💙
📞 If you or a Veteran you know needs immediate help, the Veterans Crisis Line is available 24/7: Dial 988 then Press 1.
