As we reflect on Juneteenth, it’s essential to recognize the profound impact of emancipation on family unity and protection. For the formerly enslaved, freedom meant the ability to protect themselves and their families through the rule of law and to seek remedies for disputes previously denied to them. The ability to keep families together was a monumental shift. No longer would children and spouses be torn apart and sold, a practice that had catastrophic multi-generational consequences. Emancipation provided the opportunity for families to remain intact, thrive, and seek justice and protection under the law. While Juneteenth did not immediately grant citizenship to the formerly enslaved, it symbolized the beginning of their journey toward full civil rights and recognition under the Constitution. Family is the cornerstone of our communities. On this Juneteenth, let’s honor the strength and resilience of those who fought for their freedom and the ability to safeguard their families. The human rights protection some of us have can only be safeguarded when we constantly uphold, promote & defend it. From Gaza to Gugulethu, we must keep up the action to protect & uphold human rights. It is our responsibility to ensure everyone is protected and not just the few. Particular concern is the ongoing failure to protect the rights of Palestinians, Congolese and Sudanese citizens who continue to suffer at the hands of the global capitalist and military powers. Driven by greed, conquest and accumulation. The UN Security Council has primary responsibility to ensure peace and security, yet continue to fail at their duty. What is happening clearly indicates the need to reform the system, as stated and supported by the current UN Secretary General. But in the meantime #CeasefireNOW

As we approach Juneteenth, let us not only reflect on the terror that darkens the pages of our nation’s storybook. Let us also celebrate how the bravery and resilience of our ancestors led us to the freedoms known in our country today. Acknowledge that through slavery, deferred freedoms, and ultimately the continued fight for civil rights, the true essence of America is found. May this federal holiday serve as a reminder that the legacy left for each of us enjoying these freedoms is to continue driving peaceful discussion and demanding change that disrupts ‘societal norms’ or policy that otherwise revoke equality for all. #Juneteenth #blacklivesmatter #representationmatters #supplierdiversity #dei
