Uncover the mystery of the zombie salmon in this eerie nature video from the National Park Service. Watch as these fish perform their macabre dance of spawning and find out more about this fascinating phenomenon. Zombie salmon, a strange and eerie sight in the freshwater streams. These fish, once vibrant and full of life, now in a state of decay as they make their final journey back to their spawning grounds. Their rotting bodies provide nourishment for the plants and animals that depend on them. It's a cycle of life and death, a macabre dance of nature's design. The zombie salmon may be unsettling to look at, with their decaying flesh and empty eyes, but they serve a vital purpose in the ecosystem. As they slowly decompose, they release nutrients into the water, feeding the algae and insects that in turn feed the birds and other wildlife. It's a grim yet beautiful process, a reminder of the interconnectedness of all living things. The zombie salmon may be creepy, but they are essential to the health of the ecosystem.

It's #WorldOtterDay today! Here are some of my favourite otter facts: 🦦 There's 13 different species of otter, the smallest of which is the Asian small-clawed otter. 🦦 The collective noun for a group of otters is a lodge or a romp, but in the water they are often referred to as a raft! 🦦 Although you may know that some otters sleep holding hands, when an otter pup is small, the mother will hold it on her belly to keep it from floating away. The Black Giant Squirrel, also known as the Malabar Giant Squirrel, is an extraordinary tree-dwelling mammal with a striking appearance. Known for its large size, it stands around 1 to 1.5 feet tall when on its hind legs, with a body length of 1 to 2 feet excluding its long, bushy tail. The tail itself can match the length of its body, enhancing its regal presence in the forest canopy. This squirrel is distinguished by its sleek, glossy black fur, though some individuals exhibit a reddish-brown underbelly that adds contrast to their dark coat. Its dense fur provides insulation in cooler climates and protection against heat, allowing the Black Giant Squirrel to thrive in diverse environments, from the Western Ghats in India to the rainforests of Southeast Asia. Primarily herbivorous, this squirrel feeds on nuts, seeds, fruits, and leaves, with a powerful jaw for cracking open hard shells. Their feeding habits also play an essential role in forest regeneration, as they contribute to seed dispersal. These squirrels are solitary by nature, This magnificent creature's adaptability and lifestyle make it a captivating part of the forest ecosystem. #wildlife #nikon #natgeo #bbc #animalplanet

Absolutely, yet it's crucial to underscore that the essence of nature is self-regulation—orchestrating itself with minimal redundancy and control distortions. The nature of nature isn't mere wildness but viable self-regulation. It's not about chaotic animalistic impulses or esoteric mindfulness muddled by ignorance, as mainstream dialogues on returning to nature often suggest. Rather, it's about the coherence of meaning derived from the potential for self-regulation. #SelfRegulation #NatureOfNature #BeyondWildness #ViableNature #EcologicalMindfulness #SustainableLiving #BiodiversityAwareness #ConnectWithNature #DeepEthics #NatureAndHumanity
"How strange it is that one silly primate can see itself as separate from all those it shares this world with. What might happen if we remembered we are a part of this wild world — and let that understanding and humility guide every choice we make?" - Craig Foster, co-founder of the Sea Change Project On what at a minimum, we can do to re-connect ourselves with the rest of nature: "It starts with challenging ourselves to reconnect with the wild. So much of our modern world seems designed to tame us: to dull our minds, to separate us from the natural world, to convince us that what will help us survive is more consumption. Like my octopus friends, we fill our houses with shiny new things. But our piles of stuff are much bigger and the cost of acquisition much greater. We can break free of this tame conditioning. When we dedicate even just a few minutes per day to observing wild creatures on their own terms, in their own homes, regardless of where we live, we connect with the concept of biodiversity not simply on an intellectual level but also on an emotional level. We see the world differently — and ourselves, too."
