Working in sections that directly impact communities e.g aged care, women or youth refuge, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island organisations require the most basic level of understanding of those sectors. But how about we raise the standard to include mandatory personality and behavioural tests- to ensure the self imposed experts, those who only have their knowledge from books and lack EQ aren’t taking the jobs of those who are passionate, who volunteer and are vocal in the need for systematic change- those who don’t do the job only for the pay, title or ego. Put the most appropriate person in the job & train them up if they lack the “formal education”, you’ll get more out of them and see real change, get rid of the space wasters. This isn’t saying silver spoons aren’t the right people either, many people I know who have had a privileged life are humble, caring and I admire them (TM). Just a thought for thought. Thanks for listening

🚗 Paving the Way! 🚙 Our Healthy Minds and Healthy Transitions programs had a fantastic meeting with Alex Montaner of Florida's Statewide Workforce Development Program, to discuss career opportunities for youth/young adults in the road construction industry. Many young adults with mental illness struggle to find work environments that are supportive and offer a sense of accomplishment. The road industry offers unique opportunities to support them: 🚧 Structured Environment: Road construction provides a clear structure with defined tasks and goals, which can be beneficial for those seeking stability. 🚦 Physical Activity: Working outdoors and performing physical tasks can be a great way to manage stress and improve overall well-being. 👷♂️ Teamwork & Camaraderie: Road crews work closely together, fostering a sense of belonging and community. 🛣 Career Growth: The road industry offers various specializations and opportunities for advancement. By providing the right support and resources, young adults learning to manage mental health conditions can build successful careers while contributing to our vital infrastructure here in Florida. #mentalhealthmatters #careergrowth #youthmentalhealth

So many of the challenges communities face today are experienced nationwide. But the reality is you live and lead in your local community. You care most about the challenges facing your immediate area. You don’t have to solve these challenges on a national level. You just have to make a contribution to creating change in your local community. Chances are, you're already doing great work. You can build on what you're doing, together with others. The history of our country proves real change starts in our local communities. Once it gets started, it sparks a chain reaction that can ultimately grow and spread across the country.
