Today is National Sewing Machine Day! As we honour this machine that has kept us in stitches since the first sewing machine patent in 1791, I reflect on how many unused sewing machines are sitting lonely in closets around Edmonton, just taking up space. Today, I encourage you to pull it out of the closet and decide what you are going to do with it! (1) Start using it again (SOON); (2) Sell it; (3) Donate it to a local charity; (4) Gift it to a family member. For anyone wondering what my new diamond🔸is for: It stands for the🔸10% Pledge, a commitment to give 10% of my income to effective charities until I retire. I am not sharing this to boast, but because taking The Pledge is probably one of the most important and impactful single decisions I will ever make. And I think you may want to consider it too. Although I am a student / working at a mostly-volunteer NGO, my modest donations still already approach saving someone's entire life.
