We often get asked by our clients what’s our method for accurately and quickly capturing as-is reality data. More often than not, Leica Geosystems part of Hexagon’s #rtc360 is the answer! We have to give credit to R-E-A-L.iT for the amazing demonstration showed in this video. In our experience, a Terrestrial Laser Scanner’s dimensional accuracy is unparalleled when it comes to the capture of 3D data. Add on the fact that each capture takes <3mins from one scan position to another resulting in 100 million crisp data points with an immersive high-definition, high dynamic range panoramic image, one can easily understand why the #rtc360 is a preferred tool for us when it comes to as-is reality capture. Leica envisioned the eventual hurdle of managing all these data and came up with an equally capable software to facilitate the registration and management of huge projects (up to 5000 scan positions) in Register 360 PLUS. Register 360 PLUS allows the user to register, clean, optimise, and dimensionally constraint the point cloud to result in a dimensionally accurate model for further use/utility in our other softwares. Applying constraints through the use of GPS coordinates or #totalstations grants further dimensional tolerance/constraints to the model thus ensuring the error propagation is arrested from scan to scan across the site. We are constantly evolving and improving on our capture methodologies to cater to our client needs and look forward to a whole array of exciting projects in 2024!
