Recently was “bombarded” by the algorithm on social media about public goodness….. in particular about folks all dressed to the Ts representing companies, orgs or political parties touting involvement in public good at staged speeches or high-end hosted dining events, etc. Convincing? IMHO not! The promotion of altruism or good causes shouldn’t be a projection of seemingly counterproductive glamourous imageries against the orginal organizational intent. Do not forget that you are not “the star” but the cause is. The most shining example of #PublicGood or be involved in a #CompanyOfGood is still this:
UNITED is a way to develop our sustainable perspectives as a regional community beyond what we can do by ourselves. In this short video I explain how it works.
I have been waiting for the right moment to post this message and after the last 48 hours, now is the right time.
Your marginalized and multicultural communities are suffering. Most of us who were born here are now suffering from an identity crisis and a belonging crisis. I urge you to check in on your colleagues and make sure that they take 5. They may look OK but they are not.
Let us remember that diversity and inclusion are not mere buzzwords or checkboxes on an agenda. They are living, breathing concepts that require genuine care, understanding, and action. By encouraging an atmosphere of empathy and compassion, we can create spaces where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
Over these months, we have witnessed the power of our convictions as we engage in impactful boycotts. By supporting local businesses and rejecting those that fail to align with our values, we are not only reshaping the market but also shifted the spotlight onto the importance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.
As we continue down this transformative path, let us remember that the true power lies within us – within our collective to bring change, within our ability to lead by example, a world that embraces compassion.
I encourage you to watch the below video, it is a powerful message, I have watched it a few times since Christmas. I also encourage you to google Harrison Ford's aka Indiana Jones 😉 2019 Climate message which is equally as powerful.
Thank you

What a topic to tackle: volunteer comfort and care . . . I'm still mulling over some of my takeaways from the conversation, including
🫂 - responsible comfort and care of our volunteers is about relationships and culture more than policy. Individuals have different needs; we need to entrench a culture of checking in, encouraging/respecting boundaries, asking for feedback, celebrating as a team.
🍶- even though, being intentional about the minimum standards for comfort, and caring for the physical, social, cultural and psychological wellness of the volunteer is a program responsibility and should be codified. If they're doing the work they need to have the tools to do it, and the resources to do it safely. Water and hats on hot days; checking in after an emotionally taxing responses. How does this look at your organization?
🤝 - volunteer comfort and care is embedded across the volunteer lifecycle. It starts with solid understanding of the scope of work and appropriate placement, continues as we provide training and enable the work, and is ever present in how we appreciate volunteers, how they engage with the work, etc, etc. Just like justice, equity, diversity and inclusion work, comfort and care isn't a project or initiative on the side, it's to be entrenched and cultural.
Thanks Alex and Kamak for the super conversation this morning!

Love the theme for August CreativeMornings,
"What rituals do you practice in your relationships, your spirituality, and your creative work? How do they heighten your sense of purpose and belonging in this world?"
At discoverU, we encourage you to find one or two rituals [(journal writing or walking; start simple :)] that you can make yours and grow with it to prioritise yourself.

One of the greatest joys of our work is that we have clients who challenge us to be bold as much as we challenge them - and sometimes change the game for our approach for years to come. Rhodes Trust was one of them.
More on that from Zach Hochstadt later this week. In the meantime, here's a little mid-week inspiration:

This issue marks a very special milestone for Our
Place — it’s our 50th! So we’ve decided to turn the
tables and interview Christopher Duffy, creative
director of Our Place, as well as co-founder alongside
wife Rachelle, about the journey of the magazine and
the community that has made it what it is along the way.
Here are some highlights:
"C: It became evident that there were narratives waiting
to be shared—stories that might otherwise remain
undiscovered. Recognising this unique opportunity,
we felt a compelling drive to establish a platform that
could bring these narratives to light."
"C: Our dedication to highlighting the endeavors of
individuals, organisations, and groups making a
positive impact in our community remains steadfast.
However, it’s crucial that we remain adaptable in our
approach to sharing these stories."
"C: Yet, beyond these tangible markers, what truly fills us with
gratitude and pride is the privilege we hold — the
privilege to tell stories that matter."
