Laureus Sport for Good Foundation USA (Laureus USA) has been recognized by the Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago White Sox through their Chicago Sports Alliance initiative to reduce gun violence. Funding will support Sport for Good Chicago, a coalition of more than 100 organizations working towards a Chicago where every young person has access to high quality, youth-centered sport programming in their neighborhood. In a city where perpetrators and victims of violence are getting younger and younger, we need additional investment into innovative violence prevention efforts that reach kids before it's too late. Sports-based youth development is perfectly positioned to interrupt this cycle of trauma and violence. Through sport, young people have the opportunity to make connections with friends and caring adults who help them build skills in support of their overall physical and mental well-being. Sport creates space for young people to experience empowerment, healing, and collective joy in the face of overwhelming stress and trauma. I'm reminded of an insightful conversation that I had with LaVonte Stewart, MPA nearly a decade ago. He told me that every kid needs community and will find it somewhere. The question is whether they will find it through a positive team (such as his Lost Boyz Inc program), or a harmful team (such as a street organization). The problem -- too many kids don't have that positive option available to them. Through this investment, Chicago Sports Alliance has made sure that more young people will have the opportunity to choose the positive team.

CONFLICT ANALYSIS: LIFE, LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS WHILE BEING SURROUNDED BY SENSELESS GUN VIOLENCE. https://lnkd.in/gNAhQhm6 One of the core tenets of the US Constitution is to stay alive and respect life, to honour freedom and protect freedom, and to pursue happiness. People who get shot randomly lose their lives and do not have freedom when shot, and while dead, the pursuit of happiness hits a dead end. https://lnkd.in/gxE6xgsM The survivors of the shootings and those who live in the terror of being shot or seeing loved ones being shot don't have a life; they lack freedom, and their happiness is replaced with a nightmare. For those of us who have lived in violent countries, random violence is like living in hell; there is no happiness there, no freedom, and life is cheap! https://lnkd.in/gK7HacPz There are 44,341 deaths per year in the USA—4603 children, more than the people killed in Israel during the Palestinian genocide and more than military personnel fighting the Russians in Ukraine. The way the gun industry gets away is by providing research studies on percentages of deaths so no one bothers to check the numbers. The killing of kids and teachers in Georgia is a minor incident in this river of blood and death. https://lnkd.in/guB_vqYp The politicians will talk about it briefly, but life goes on. The US citizens will continue to drool over life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness while dodging bullets in schools, supermarkets, churches, bars, cinemas or even on the streets because behind any window, door, tree or out of the car that stops before you there may be a mass killer walking towards you riddling everything with bullets. https://lnkd.in/gdRJvDmx How can we build peace in places where violence is a way of life? Peace is the best way to live, and our hearts go to all those victims of gun violence and survivors living with the trauma. https://lnkd.in/gU_Y4M5K Why do intelligent people like humans end up in this madness? A conflict to be transformed. https://lnkd.in/gki5g-js Natanael #MillennialsForPeace, #PeacefulGeneration, #UnityAmongMillennials, #HarmonyForMillennials, #BuildingPeaceTogether, #MillennialPeaceBuilders, #PeacefulFutureAhead, #MillennialsForHarmony, #PeaceIsOurPriority, #MillennialsUnitedForPeace, #CreatingPeacefulCommunities, #HarmoniousMillennials, #YouthForPeace, #PeacefulCoexistence, #MillennialLeadersForPeace, #PeaceMakersGeneration, #TogetherForPeace, #MillennialsPromotingPeace, #PeacefulMindset, #MillennialsForUnity, #BuildingBridgesForPeace, #GlobalPeaceByMillennials, #PeacefulWorldVision, #MillennialsUnitedInPeace, #PromotingHarmony, #PeacefulActions, #MillennialsMakingChange, #InclusivePeace, #HarmonyInDiversity, #YouthfulPeace, #PeaceBuildersMovement, #EmpoweringMillennialsForPeace, #PositivePeace, #MillennialsForGlobalHarmony, #CultivatingPeacefulMinds, #CreatingATranquilWorld, #PeacefulCooperation, #MillennialsForPositiveChange, #BuildingPeacefulFutures,

Today is National Wear Orange Day, a day to honor Hadiya Pendleton and the over 43,000 victims of gun violence in the U.S. each year. Observed every June, Wear Orange Day raises awareness about the impact of gun violence. The Los Angeles County Office of Violence Prevention, along with the nation, commemorates Gun Violence Awareness Month, which began in 2013 after Hadiya’s tragic death. Wearing orange symbolizes safety and remembrance. In 2022, over 800 lives were lost to gun violence in LA County, including 500 homicides and over 300 suicides. Gun violence affects families physically, emotionally, and financially, with direct costs exceeding $570 million and additional costs from lost work and quality of life over $9 billion. Gun Violence Restraining Orders (GVROs) are a vital tool to help prevent harm by temporarily removing firearms from individuals at risk. Learn more about GVROs and how to obtain one to help keep our communities safe. #WearOrange #GunViolenceAwareness

The best response to tragedy is action. On October 25, 2023, tragedy struck Lewiston, Maine, when a man armed with an assault weapon killed 18 innocent people and scarred countless others. Following the horrific tragedy, @Brady joined Maine lawmakers and advocates in working tirelessly to pass legislation to prevent further acts of gun violence. While it wasn’t easy, ultimately elected officials listened to constituents and passed effective solutions that will save lives. Just recently two bills became law which: ☑️Expand Background checks to cover most gun sales ☑️Improve the state’s “yellow flag” law by allowing family members to petition for extreme risk protection orders ☑️Create injury and violence prevention programs ☑️Create a mandatory 72-hour waiting period for certain firearms Learn more about what Brady is doing to help communities across the country respond with action by visiting us at: https://lnkd.in/euRvSUZT
