The recent announcement by the King marks a significant shift in the management of England’s public transport system. The new Government is set to introduce legislation to bring bus and rail services more closely under public control, including the public ownership of train operators. Turning to buses, key elements of the proposed Better Buses Bill include: ➡️ Granting local leaders new powers to franchise local bus services. ➡️ Lifting restrictions on the creation of new publicly-owned bus operators. This legislation aims to safeguard local bus networks by: ➡️ Enhancing accountability over bus operators. ➡️ Ensuring higher standards across the country. ➡️ Providing local leaders with greater control and flexibility over bus funding. The implications of this could be potentially huge. Interesting times ahead!

The City held an engagement with taxi and bus operators on 7 May to present the Tactical Adjustment Roadmap which aims to facilitate accelerated transformation of public transport in the City. This is a revised approach to implement the City’s Integrated Public Transport Network, GO!Durban. This requires the formalisation of 16 contracts, including the C3 route, priority feeder contracts, existing contracts, and the Inner-City Distribution System. This approach requires the taxi and bus industry to formalise their business operations leading to an improved public transport system.

Automating Perth's railway network is a significant next step for our public transport network. Having to wait extended periods for a train is a barrier for most, including myself, when deciding whether to use public transport or to simply drive or get an Uber. This decision is also not a politically 'attractive' decision to make as there is no new station to unveil at the end. Great to see the State and Federal Governments making this next logical investment. https://lnkd.in/gjdake5z
