🚨Another day, another drag on companies that are not paying creators of color their WORTH. This time Fannita, is calling out other white creators by name, such as Alix Earle. Fannita has been getting paid $20k for brand deals, but with the platform she has, she deserves WAY MORE! Her counterparts are getting paid $60k+ for their brand deals, and they are not even half as entertaining or don't have as big a platform as she does. She also called out Prada since she recently spent a bag in their store. Usually, when creators visit luxury establishments, they are sent personalized PR packages, but unfortunately, not many creators of color get the luxury of being showered with gifts from these establishments like their peers. Luxury is officially all-in on TikTok. When luxury brands made waves previously on the app, it wasn’t always in the ways they wanted. For every viral success like Prada's bucket hat challenge, there was a fiasco like the widely mocked Chanel advent calendars in 2021. But there are signs more premium brands are finding their footing. The answer is still to work with influencers, whose content makes up nearly 70% of media impact value for top brands. Christian Dior Couture, for example, scored its biggest TikTok hit with content from Jaadiee, a grandfather who does unboxing videos and styles his streetwear to Drake and Gunna tracks. He attended Dior’s Spring/Summer 2024 show in July. I'm excited to see how luxury brands balance overconsumption with their luxury brand appeal on TikTok. Luxury brands have traditionally thrived on exclusivity and FOMO. They've been able to command high prices by making their products seem unattainable to most people. But TikTok is a platform where everyone can see everything, and that could pose a challenge to luxury brands. On the one hand, TikTok is a great way for luxury brands to reach a new generation of consumers, foster community and conversation. The platform is full of young people who are interested in fashion and luxury goods. TikTok's short-form video format is perfect for showcasing products in a visually appealing way. On the other hand, TikTok could also lead to overconsumption of luxury goods. If people are constantly seeing videos of people wearing and using luxury brands, it could cheapen the value of luxury brands and make them less exclusive. It will be interesting to see how luxury brands balance these two competing forces. But, I'm confident that they can find a way to succeed!
