An IV fluid shortage is hitting hospitals nationwide and it could last for weeks, according to the federal government. Hospitals have already seen supply challenges and some are delaying surgeries. The shortages are tied to the flooding of a key plant in North Carolina from Helene; the plant produces over half the IV fluids used nationwide. The American Hospital Association has been pressing the government to take steps to help health systems.

The supply chain impacts are real for hospitals across Pennsylvania and the US, and with an additional storm on the horizon, action needs to be taken as soon as possible. "It's certainly something that's affecting hospitals across Pennsylvania and, quite frankly, across the United States," Christopher Chamberlain, the vice president of emergency management of the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania, said. Chamberlain said if the shortage gets worse, some hospitals may have to delay procedures that aren't urgent. "Looking at elective procedures, elective surgeries, and maybe postponing them for now," he said. "Now, the challenge is those are short-term strategies." #HAP #healthcare #supplychain #emergencymanagement

Natural disasters touch all of us, and the closure of Baxter’s North Carolina IV fluid plant after Hurricane Helene has underscored the need for medical preparedness. Nurses and healthcare providers are at the center of conservation efforts and may adjust IV infusion times to conserve fluids—requiring proficiency with multiple IV pumps, a high-consequence, low-frequency event. SimVS-IV, the world’s first infusion pump simulator, enables nurses to train for these critical scenarios. Simulation prepares healthcare professionals to handle real-world crises where quick decisions can make all the difference. Preparedness through simulation is key to ensuring our providers are ready for anything. #SimulationTraining #NursingEducation #SimVS #IVPumps #HealthcareSimulation #NurseProficiency

In recent weeks, our nation has faced the devastating impact of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, which have ravaged the southeastern United States. The effects of these storms extend far beyond the region, sending shockwaves that are being felt across the nation. In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, one of the nation's largest producers of IV fluids was forced to shut down its facility in North Carolina. This closure has pushed the national supply of IV fluids to dangerously low levels, prompting hospitals nationwide to cancel elective surgeries in a bid to conserve their dwindling reserves. Thanks to MATTER 360, MATTER’s medical repurposing initiative, we are providing several hospitals with the IV fluids they need to supplement their supplies during this crisis. “Just as we assisted hospitals in the US during the pandemic when critical PPE (personal protection equipment) was needed, we are honored to be able to come alongside US-based hospitals to provide them with the IV fluids that are critical to maintaining their healthcare operations,” said Joel Anderson, Executive Vice-President of MATTER 360. “Many of these hospitals have aided healthcare facilities around the world through their donations of medical equipment and supplies to MATTER. Now we have the opportunity to turn around and help them in their time of need. It’s a privilege to serve them in this way.” As communities continue to grapple with the aftermath of these unprecedented storms, MATTER remains committed to helping healthcare providers across the U.S. as they navigate these extraordinary challenges. Crisis. Emergency. Help when you can; can't help ? Sure you can. Connect people to people that can help , or to someone that knows someone that can help... Being overly vague /general to protect identities and conceal locations (who exactly where exactly isn't important here). Friend of mine text me yesterday. " heat went out, we are freezing , but should be fixed shortly...." Was relieved they were ok and warming up shorlty after. another text , ".... ______ hospital called me, state of _____ is basically out of ventilators, rentals 0 can't find them , they need help , so I scraped ice off my car , ran out pick up and then to emergency loan them a few of my vents" 1. again relieved for the doctor's and RTs that a few vents were found and they got help form their patients. 2. it's just the way my friend is, he had his own crisis, it was not get outside and drive around weather , he still stepped up. 3. he passed my info along to them as well in case they had questions or needed additional help or advice or assistance connecting with someone to help when they need more vent support or advice. 4. how can I help ? #BCV can prevent intubation in many cases freeing up a vent for someone that care need has escalated to needing the invasive intervention. #BCV can help wean patients with difficulty weaning or reduce the amount of time it takes to successfully wean from PPV and support them after if needed ; freeing additional resources. #BCV can support patients in the home and contribute to helping keep the patient out of the hospital, or if recently discharged, reduce readmissions. If you're in a similar situation, or know someone that is (low on or out of vents , can't find rentals/temporarily solutions, etc), send me a direct message, will help or try find someone to help or someone that knows someone else that can help as quickly as possible. video - note not all models available in all markets, ask for details, the patient interface and benefits are similar across models the Hayek, and video highlights ease of use even in field disaster emergencies with protection equipment. Interested? Let's chat. #mechanicalventilation #respiratorycare #criticalcare #homecare
