As our parents age, these words become more frequent, but caregiving can feel overwhelming if we don’t strike a balance. 🤯 How do we manage their care while maintaining our own identity and well-being? Here are 3 simple strategies to help you manage this delicate balance: Set Boundaries: It’s okay to say no sometimes. Prioritizing your own needs allows you to show up fully for them. 🌸 Delegate Tasks: Don’t be afraid to ask for help from other family members or professionals (like your friendly neighborhood Aging Parent Coach!) You don’t have to do it all! 🤝 Self-Care Rituals: Whether it’s a daily walk, meditation, or time with friends, create space for activities that rejuvenate you. 🌿💛 Remember, you can care for them and yourself at the same time. 💪

Caring & Thriving: Self-Care Tips Along with our staff tips on general self-care, here are some recommendations to help individuals who have a concussion.  Get regular and sustained sleep. Allow napping but  limit naps to later in the afternoon. Stay hydrated with water. Limit cognitive exertion with increased symptoms (computer time, texting, television/movie watching, video game playing, reading, homework, socializing, extracurricular activities and working). Self-Care Tip Four,  Rest: Give yourself permission to nap or relax without guilt. Like, follow, and share as we share tips that our staff do for self care! 

Let’s talk self-care! It can be extremely easy to forget to prioritize ourselves when going through the motions of our day to day lives. Self-care is “a commitment to ourselves — a promise to factor ourselves into to equation of our lives” (Vermani). By committing time to nurturing ourselves, we improve our mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. Self-care can come in many forms. For me, self-care is spending extra time outdoors, creating art, or even something as small as allowing myself to rest an extra 10 minutes after my alarm goes off in the morning. Find what self-care means to you and do more of it. Self-care is anything but selfish.
