Today, on World Day Against Child Labour, we at CHRIST Consulting stand united with the global community to amplify a crucial message: ‘Every Child Deserves a Playground, Not a Workplace.’ As we observe this day, let’s remind ourselves of the collective responsibility we hold to safeguard the innocence and aspirations of our youngest generation. Children are the architects of tomorrow, and every child labourer is a stolen architect. By advocating for their education and freedom, we’re not just preventing child labour; we’re nurturing future leaders, innovators, and dreamers. Let’s commit to empowering children with the tools they need to build their dreams, not ours. Join the movement. Speak up, spread the word, and let’s turn the tide together. #EndChildLabour #EmpowerDreams #CHRISTConsultingImpact

Commenting on Trebor Scholz' new book - Own this! How Platform Cooperatives Help Workers Build a Democratic Internet (published by Verso Books), I talk about what it takes to 'scale' a sisterhood. The work by SEWA Cooperative Federation gives us some lessons, particularly on a federated model of scaling, what resources we need to achieve this, and how do informal women workers and their cooperatives sustain a movement? https://lnkd.in/d-4QgfMV

## Right to Learn Anti-Child Labour Day, Everyday we should remember the vital importance of ensuring every child can learn, grow, and dream. No child should trade their playground for a workplace or their books for tools. Child labor, a harsh reality for millions, robs them of this essential right and exposes them to harm. It's our collective responsibility to create a world where children can enjoy their childhood and prepare for a bright future. Take action whenever you see a child working report it, support organizations fighting child labor, and raise community awareness. By standing together, we can end child labor and protect the joy and innocence of childhood for future generations. End child labor now. Childhood matters.

Spreading the idea of meaningful work ❤ Psychologist | Talent Acquisition Lead | HR Business Partner
I got my first job at the age of 11. My father signed me and my brother up to sell paper crosswords on the street to show us what it meant to work. It was only two or three days of a few hours each in the summer, but I still remember the experience. It was difficult and I hardly earned anything, but in the end it was beneficial for me. I learned that you have to work and earn money, that it's not that easy and that any kind of work has value. Since selling to random passers-by was not very successful, I came up with the idea that we could ask the sellers at the nearby bathroom fittings market. That was it. We started selling the first copies and I felt happy and successful. I quickly realised that it is very important to find customers who have the time to listen to you and the need to use your product. This was something that helped me later when I worked in sales. In the following years I had a few other temporary jobs during the summer to have some money for my expenses. Of course, I was mainly employed for manual work, without any contracts or insurance, and I was paid much less than adults. By the time I reached eighteen, I had already had various work experiences and learned valuable lessons that helped me in my later career. Fortunately, I didn't have to work all year round and had a good environment for healthy growth and development, but that's not something millions of children around the world can say. According to UNICEF "In the world’s poorest countries, slightly more than 1 in 5 children are engaged in child labour": https://lnkd.in/eANH9u4A Although looking at statistics in developed countries, there is no evidence of this practice, but I don't believe it. In my experience, in every country, whether in poor neighbourhoods or in rural areas, children work to support their families and earn for basic needs. This is the way this world is structured and putting an end to it will require more than just implementing the right laws. I really recommend the short film about Lewis Wickes Hine's work. His concept of social photography and the meaningful work he did is a real inspiration to anyone thinking about the impact one can make. Although he was hidden behind the camera and probably many people won't even discover who he was by looking at his photos, but his stories and his message remain. #ChildLabour #FirstWorkExperience #SocialPhotography
