When the diagnosis is cancer.... It can be a daunting and isolating experience. However, it's important to remember that you're not alone. In a recent episode of Conversations With TO, Gustavo Pineiro shared his heartwarming story of coping with a cancer diagnosis. His story is a reminder that there is hope, support available, and life after the diagnosis. Watch the full video here: https://lnkd.in/eedbKiRr #cancer #support #hope #conversationswithto

Empowering Men’s Well-Being: Bridging Mental and Physical good health through Education and Training
This month, we’re shaking things up for our bite-sized sessions. Instead of the usual one-way communication, we’re hitting the ground to engage with our men. Our mission? To uncover What They Don’t Know. And guess what? We’re talking balls and testicular cancer awareness. Check out below 👇 https://lnkd.in/eFCfYyK8 It’s crucial to stay informed and spread awareness. Here are some stats: 👉 Around 2,400 UK men are diagnosed with testicular cancer each year. 👉 Survival rates have significantly improved over the years, with nearly all men (98.2%) surviving beyond ten years after diagnosis. Let’s break the silence, raise awareness, and empower our community! Together, we can make a difference. Remember, knowledge is power! Feel free to share this post and spread the word. “You can't dream when you're just trying to survive.” This is the harsh reality for the final 10% of people with CF who do not benefit from the currently available mutation-targeted therapies and are still waiting for their breakthrough. At EE, we believe that every single person deserves to dream — and so we set off to find lifesaving treatments for those left behind. This year’s campaign video is about the unprecedented progress we’re seeing in drug development and the hope it is creating for the final 10%. And so, for the first time ever, we dare to dream. We need your support to make this dream a reality. Will you *DARE TO DREAM* with us?! This evening at 7:00 PM, the ESPN family of networks will air Jim Valvano’s ESPY speech, the catalyst for the #VFoundation for cancer research. I would encourage you to watch if you’re able. If you’re not, I’ve linked to it below. I can’t add anything to better frame the speech. It is as inspiring today as it was 30 years ago. In my opinion, it is the greatest speech I have ever heard. What I will offer are two things. First, cancer is a horrible disease, even for survivors. The good news is that much progress has been made since the V Foundation was created. Some stats: One in three people will be afflicted with cancer in their lifetime. Anyone reading will have a name pop in their head immediately (it may be your own). Since Valvano’s speech, the death rate for cancer has decreased by 33%. There are 18.1 million cancer survivors in the US today. This is roughly the population of North and South Carolina combined. The V Foundation has funded more than $310 million for cancer research. I took these stats from the ESPN documentary called “The Speech.” It goes into detail about the year surrounding Valvano’s death. In the documentary, a recording of a call that Valvano had with ESPN producers in November of 2022 was played. In that call, he said the legacy he wanted to leave was to raise money for cancer research. This leads me to my second thing. Jim Valvano will always be a hero to me. It doesn’t matter my age. He experienced the highest of professional highs by winning a National Championship and being at the top of his profession. He experienced the lowest of professional lows by losing his job while having his character and integrity attacked. Still, it was all immaterial when he was fighting for his life. To me, his legacy isn’t basketball, getting let go by NC State, or winning a CableACE award. Rather, Valvano said in his speech that cancer research may not save his life, but it may save the life of someone he loves. His daughter Jamie (at the age of 33) was diagnosed with cancer. That was almost 20 years ago. She rang the bell. So have many others in the 30 years since this speech. To me, that’s a heck of a legacy. #RIPJimmyV
