Dr. Lillian Beard started her career at Children’s National Hospital as a resident in 1970! After officially retiring at the end of 2023, we had the chance to catch up with her to reflect on her many years spent with patients and families, and the connection she was able to develop with all of her colleagues…”everyone in the hospital had the same mentality: we are here to serve. If you’re part of Children’s, you’re part of an institution that cares.” Thank you for your decades of dedication, Dr. Beard!
Lillian Beard is a true G.O.A.T. ( greatest of all time), as a pediatrician, advocate, educator, and community and national leader. I was personally honored to work with her as a colleague and privileged to have her as a friend. Congratulations!
My brain quickly said wow that’s 33 years! Then…my brain quickly realized the mistake and said WOW THAT’S 53 YEARS! Amazing!
While I was Chairman we hosted Clinton AND Gore. Dr. Beard gave the welcome speech and wowed Clinton, who said “I hope I never have to run against her !”
Dr. Beard, along with Dr. Catoe, we’re my pediatricians from birth to 21 years of age as well as my 4 sisters and a host of cousins. What a blessing!
Could not agree more with Kurt Newman……
Awesome Dr. and person.
President and Chief Executive Officer, District of Columbia Hospital Association
3moDr Beard along with her partner Dr. Bette Catoe were our family pediatricians. They both were pediatric pioneers, as women of color, leaving a major mark in the field of pediatrics. Her Dr, Beard’s elegance, grace and most importantly her dedication to children and families in the District of Columbia knows no equal. To later, see her join the Board at Children’s, during my tenure, was such a full circle moment for me and my family. It was always an honor to be in her company.
