Near to 10,000 people in our community (9946, to be precise) have taken a pledge to donate a portion of their income to effective charities. That includes: 🔸 the 10% Pledge, 🔹 the Trial Pledge, and the Further Pledge. Emma took a 6-month trial pledge last year, and we're so pleased that it gave her the confidence to commit to giving 10% of her income until she retires! We recently updated our webpage about the Trial Pledge – you can learn more about how this flexible option can give you the evidence that donating effectively, consistently, and generously is not only plausible but incredibly rewarding. See how: https://lnkd.in/dV6FsY32

Really looking forward to this event! For those who don't know, Scott Pirrello and his team at the San Diego County District Attorney's Office run the Elder Justice Task Force (EJTF) dedicated to identifying, investigating, and disrupting scam networks that target older adults locally in San Diego. Senior Tech Connect. This work is extremely important, especially given the influx of new tactics and cyber scams - so much so that we stream the '60 Minutes' episode featuring the EJTF San Diego whenever we present on Top Senior Scams. Senior Tech Connect is looking forward to collaborating with Scott's team to provide #Cybersecurity workshops and other resources to help older adults (especially those vulnerable to cyber crime) throughout #SanDiego County over the next few months. Come out to this event! In the meantime, please educate your loved ones with these three simple tips: 1️⃣ If you don't recognize a phone number, don't pick up the phone. 2️⃣ If you receive notification of some payment due, call the organization directly to confirm (not through the link). 3️⃣ Treat all texts, calls, emails with caution. From the IRS: "We typically contact you the first time through regular U.S. mail delivered by the U.S. Postal Service. To verify the IRS sent the letter or notice, you can search for it on IRS.gov." Join our next in-person meeting at Belmont Village Senior Living on Thursday, February 6. BUT before then, you've still got a couple of days to make a difference in the lives of San Diego seniors. 🧦❤️ Donate new white or black tube socks now through January 31! 🛒Shop conveniently through our Amazon link and ship directly to us: https://lnkd.in/gVMkqVcH? Thank you to everyone who has donated! 🩵 #SocksForSeniors

@thinkclynk makes it so easy to support your community. Got a bunch of bottles & cans kicking around after your holiday gathering? Drop them at Clynk and donate the money to Maine Needs. 🍾There are a couple of ways to do this: Swing by Maine Needs & pick up some pre-tagged Clynk bags. Fill them up and drop off at your nearest Clynk. Log onto your Clynk account. Click on 'Donations'. You can choose to donate part or all of your current balance. You can also enroll to automatically convert your bags tags to Maine Needs tags. When you drop off using your own tags, the money from the bag will be automatically transferred into the Maine Needs account. It's a super simple, set-it-and-forget-it way to support our work all year round. In the past four years, you've raised $13,868 for Maine Needs through Clynk. it truly adds up! maineneeds.org

What's the average $tarbucks' spend for an Americano? Approx. $5 Mon-Fri, so $25 a week? Vic Chamber lists 3 pages of local charities (with many, many more non-profits helping friends & neighbours all around us). Want to really do some good this #GivingTuesday? Tomorrow, why not skip the drive-thru and give $25 to a LOCAL charity of your choice instead? Just imagine, all the buzz without the caffeine: https://lnkd.in/dp2qFP9X

A few sobering stats from the "Household Food Insecurity in Canada, 2022"◽ report: ◾ 22.9% of households in Newfoundland and Labrador experienced some degree of food insecurity in the previous 12 months, amounting to 116,000 people. ◾ This is the highest rate in any of the ten provinces in Canada. ◾ 28.8% of children under 18 in Newfoundland and Labrador lived in food-insecure households. Since 2022, NLCU has held its annual NLCU Fall Food Drive to help support individuals and families in Newfoundland and Labrador who experience food insecurity to get the nourishment they need. Please donate if you can. Between now and October 31, drop by your local NLCU branch to make a donation. ------ ◽ Li T, Fafard St-Germain AA, Tarasuk V. (2023) Household food insecurity in Canada, 2022. Toronto: Research to identify policy options to reduce food insecurity (PROOF). Retrieved from https://proof.utoronto.ca/
This fall, from September 3rd to October 31st, we will be accepting donations for our Fall Food Drive at all 12 NLCU locations across the province.
