This reminded me of some research I done some years ago while working with a DPO. A key theme that emerged was that disabled people were often excluded or unable to access “culture and arts”, often because of physical barriers or lack of suitable facilities and increasingly because they couldn’t afford the support staffs to join them. Access to arts and culture is extremely important for our personal well-being and development. Artists calling for accessibility to be the “norm” may help open up new experiences, so if you are in the arts & culture industry or you’re an artist with the opportunity to influence the kinds of change that would allow people to access your work, please make this a key part of your requirements when considering venues. And if you’re involved in the assessment process, please remember that arts & culture are a key part of our emotional well-being and personal development as well as maintaining our connections to our communities and make provision for this standard. If you’re an accessible venue, be proud of it and make sure you tell people because it may make the difference between someone spending a few hours in company or sitting at home alone and isolated. These things matter. #careaboutsocialcare

New Post: Heart Cancels Europe Tour as Ann Wilson Undergoes Medical Procedure - https://lnkd.in/gx7P2GHJ - Heart’s upcoming dates in Europe have been scrapped, to enable singer Ann Wilson to recover from a medical procedure. The Rock Hall-inducted band has wiped the European leg of their Royal Flush tour, which was scheduled to kick off June 20 and run through July 12 was scheduled to kick off on June 20 and run through July 12, and include several festival spots. “We regret to inform you that all upcoming Heart performances in Europe are canceled,” reads a statement from the band.
