Socioeconomic factors including their parents’ job inequality, healthcare accessibility and institutional racism contribute to these disparities. Heading to San Antonio to engage with nurses, navigators, and physicians regarding a highly effective Swiss treatment for unresectable, locally recurrent breast cancer (LRBC). This treatment has become a recognized standard of care and is commonplace in large public hospitals in Switzerland, yet it remains unfamiliar in the United States. Our goal is to advance awareness and adoption within the U.S. medical community. Furthermore, this treatment is already accessible in university hospitals across Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, and Portugal. Governor DeSantis signed several pieces of legislation today that advance cancer research, requires the Division of State Group Insurance and Florida Medicaid to provide coverage for biomarker testing for the diagnosis, treatment, and to guide treatment decisions when such testing provides clinical utility as demonstrated by medical and scientific evidence. 15 February marks International Childhood Cancer Day, a global collaborative campaign to raise awareness about childhood cancer and its unique challenges 🎗 In the theme of this year’s #InternationalChildhoodCancerDay ‘Unveiling Challenges’, we are shining the spotlight on long-term side effects of cancer treatment for children. Many children will experience complex and debilitating long term side effects from their cancer and treatment, including secondary cancers, cognitive impairment, infertility, endocrine disorders and lower educational and social attainment compared to their peers. Clinical trials are the key to the development of new medical treatments and diagnostic innovations, providing evidence of both immediate and long-term improvements in patient outcomes. One such ANZCHOG sponsored trial, MetMED, is investigating if metformin (a drug commonly used for diabetes) can promote cognitive recovery and brain growth in children and adolescents treated for medulloblastoma. MetMED is currently open at three Australian sites, with one more expected to open shortly. This highlights the importance of effective screening methods, making the ultrasound-first approach timely, and can be a crucial strategy for most imaging centers. PHASE 1-a – STUDY ON THE INCIDENCE OF CANCER DIAGNOSIS AND MORTALITY AMONG MILITARY AVIATORS AND AVIATION SUPPORT PERSONNEL Study Summary • All types of malignant cancer diagnoses were included: ▫ Prostate , colon and rectum, pancreas, melanoma, testis, urinary bladder, kidney and renal pelvis, brain and other nervous system, thyroid, non Hodgkin lymphoma, female breast, and lung and bronchus. • Total of 156,050 aircrew and 737,891 ground crew included ▫ Aircrew 70.6% Air Force and 21.1% Navy. ▫ Ground crew 47.8% Air Force and 38.3% Navy • Median age for cancer incidence was 41 years for aircrew and 26 years for ground crew. •Median age for cancer mortality was 48 years for aircrew and 41 years for ground crew. •Compared similar U.S. population in SEER, AIRCREW had an 87% higher rate of MELANOMA, 39% higher rate of thyroid cancer, 16% higher rate of PROSTATE CANCER , and a 24% higherrate of cancer for all sites combined. •Compared similar U.S. population in SEER, GROUND CREW had a 19% higherrate of brainand nervous system, 15% higher rate of thyroid, 9% melanoma, 9% kidney and renal pelvis,and 3% higher of all sites •Aircrew had a56% lower mortality rate for all cancer, and ground crew had a 35% lower mortality rate. •Results should be interpreted in the context of the study’s limitations, with the primary limitation being that this study likely underreported the number of military cancer cases since data from the VA and civilian cancer registries were not included. •The findings suggest that aircrew and ground crew who served in the military have higher incidence of cancer compared to individuals in the U.S. population
