We are thrilled that the fiscal year 2024-2025 state budget includes $500,000 to Children’s Trust for home visiting services! Evidence shows that voluntary home visiting programs prevent child abuse and neglect, lower maternal and infant mortality and improve overall health outcomes. We look forward to helping more families across the state with these dollars. Thank you to the General Assembly and Governor Henry McMaster for including these needed funds in the budget.

Every child deserves to grow up in a safe environment. Tragically, this is not the case for all Queensland children, and this is why the QFCC keeps the Child Death Register, and makes data available for researchers to generate new findings in relation to preventable child deaths in Queensland. We have published our Action Plan 2024-2025 for the Safer pathways through childhood framework, which sets the direction of our child death prevention functions through to 2027. Some of the emerging areas of interest in the next two years include unregistered child deaths, trends in childhood suicide over time and the classification of Sudden Unexpected Deaths in infancy (SUDI). There are four main ways our work under Safer pathways makes an impact on reducing child deaths, which include producing high quality data quality; specialist knowledge and collaboration with stakeholders and the community; putting research into action; and monitoring data to identify emerging trends, system improvements and effective prevention initiatives. We recognise the incredible benefit in a partnership approach to child death prevention and will continue to work closely with stakeholders to deliver on these focus areas. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of children and families. View the plan at: https://lnkd.in/gGZCMYAn

On days like today: -2 degrees, drained and sleepy, school gets canceled at the last minute, and I have to find backup childcare, blah blah blah...all it takes for my social work heart to kick into gear is my #harmreduction family. Today was the first meeting of the year for the Illinois Harm Reduction and Recovery Coalition. 63 Harm Reduction Heroes across #illinois took time out of their busy days to plan our policy initiatives for the 2024 spring legislative session, share drug and #overdose trends, and celebrate the major victory in Vermont's House Of Reps getting their #OverdosePreventionSites bill passed through yesterday. IHRRC is getting stronger, our partnerships more vast, and we're united in our mission: END FATAL OVERDOSES with radical love. You can join the coalition by signing up here: https://lnkd.in/gDmGZgBX Illinois legislators: partner with us so we can save lives. Every overdose death is a drug policy failure, and we will not back down on reducing stigma, getting overdose prevention sites up, and expanding drug checking + access to safe supplies in Illinois.

Access to healthcare is not just a necessity; it's a lifeline for street children. These children, often exposed to severe living conditions, face a heightened risk of diseases, malnutrition, and injuries. Beyond treating immediate health issues, healthcare access plays a crucial role in breaking the cycle of poverty. Moreover, healthcare services often include counseling and support, vital in protecting these vulnerable children from exploitation, abuse, and trafficking. It's not just about healing their bodies but also safeguarding their futures. As we reflect on the importance of healthcare access, let's remember that health is the foundation for overall well-being and development. TLDR, this is summarised in the video below. Together, we can help create a healthier and brighter future for every child, even the ones on the streets. #sccwi #streetchildren #careforchildren #kindness #compassion #empathy #childrenmatter #hopeforstreetchildren #healthcare
