Every day is Earth Day! 🌎 This Earth Day, let's commit to making sustainable choices that benefit our planet: 🌊 Carry a reusable water bottle and coffee cup to avoid single-use plastic bottles and cups. Did you know? Over 60 million plastic bottles end up in landfills and oceans every day in the US alone! 🛍️ Bring your own reusable bags when shopping to eliminate the need for plastic bags. A single plastic bag can take up to 1,000 years to decompose! 🥤 Say no to plastic straws and utensils. Opt for metal or bamboo alternatives instead. Americans use over 500 million plastic straws every day, many of which end up polluting our oceans and harming marine life. 📦 Choose products with minimal packaging or packaging made from recyclable materials. Nearly one-third of all plastic packaging escapes collection systems and ends up polluting the environment. 🥡 Invest in reusable containers for food storage and meal prep instead of relying on single-use plastic bags and containers. It takes about 450 years for a plastic bottle to decompose. 🌊 Participate in local beach or community clean-up events to help remove plastic pollution from our environment and raise awareness about the importance of recycling and proper waste disposal. Over 8 million tons of plastic enter the oceans every year, threatening marine life and ecosystems. #earthday #earthday2024 #fidelitynationaltitle

The Plastic Problem The other day, I stopped by a local café and noticed just how many single-use plastic items were being handed out — cups, straws, bags, all for just a few minutes of use. It made me wonder: how much of this plastic ends up polluting our environment? Globally, we produce over 300 million tons of plastic each year, and a shocking 50% of that is for single-use items. Even worse, more than 8 million tons of plastic waste enter our oceans annually, harming marine life and ecosystems. On top of that, research shows that humans ingest around 5 grams of plastic every week — that’s the weight of a credit card! We can’t afford to ignore this issue. Thankfully, there are small but meaningful changes we can all make: Use reusable bags for shopping or say no to plastic straws and cutlery. Organizations like Plastic Free are at the forefront of raising awareness and pushing for action to combat plastic pollution. They remind us that it starts with everyday choices. Let’s do our part to reduce plastic waste, support sustainable practices, and build a healthier future for our planet. We celebrate Plastic-Free July this month, a global initiative that empowers millions to be a part of the solution to a plastic-free world for a cleaner and more sustainable tomorrow. It's time to look beyond the convenience of plastic and embrace practices that protect our streets, oceans and communities. Plastic has become so common in our daily lives that imagining a day without it seems daunting! This initiative encourages us to tackle the issue head-on and take a stand against plastic pollution. I find these six steps simple, yet effective ways to start making a difference: ✔ Carry a reusable bag for shopping – ditch those single-use plastic bags. ✔ Choose products with minimal or no plastic packaging when grocery shopping. ✔ Invest in a durable water bottle and coffee cup – say goodbye to disposables. ✔ Avoid plastic straws; opt for metal or bamboo alternatives. ✔ Store food in glass or stainless-steel containers instead of plastic wrap. ✔ Support local businesses that prioritise sustainability and reduce plastic use. What’s more important is to start conversations about plastic use within our families and communities on how to reduce the usage, and create a ripple effect of awareness and action. Let's work together to reduce our plastic footprint and pave the way for a cleaner, greener future. Sharing an interesting 31-day challenge I came across to achieve our goals. (Image credits: WWF). Do you have any plastic-free tips and tricks to share? I’d like to hear in the comments below. #PlasticFreeJuly #Sustainability #EcoFriendly #ReducePlastic #BetterWorkingWorld #SustainableLiving
