As part of the NASA Space Apps Challenge at Dayananda Sagar University, our interdisciplinary team embarked on an ambitious project exploring the possibilities of life beyond our planet. "Beyond Sunlight" delves into the concept of aquatic chemosynthesis as a viable alternative for sustaining life in extraterrestrial environments devoid of sunlight. Our project focuses on a hypothetical aquatic ecosystem located on an oceanic exoplanet, where traditional photosynthesis is not feasible. We designed a complex biosphere powered by chemosynthetic processes, drawing inspiration from extremophiles on Earth. This unique setting highlights the resilience and adaptability of life in extreme conditions. Structure: We developed a comprehensive model showcasing various biotic and abiotic components, including: Chemosynthetic Microorganisms: Key players in our ecosystem, converting inorganic compounds into energy. Food Web Dynamics: Illustrating the interdependence between various species, from microorganisms to larger organisms.
