Very interesting report from the managing director of the NBA for the Asian region. Glimpsing the growth of interest in basketball and the NBA in particular in South Korea. American sport and the approach of teams in management leading the industry in the US still is on the upfront of Global Sport Management. While the Superbowl was a more exclusive American product for inner consumption generally, year-to-year statistics as well as my sense of the out-of-US media coverage of the major American sports event show the expansion of US leagues worldwide. NBA, NHL, and NFL are gonna keep growing for global consumers and fans creating a whole new culture, and that's something to keep an eye on. #sports #sportsmedia #sportsbusiness #nba
Next up in my NBA Asia Pacific Country Dive Series: South Korea. Korea is quietly moving up the leaderboard. With almost 6 million TikTok views in 2022-2023, #SUGAxNBA was the 7th most used hashtag globally when K-pop and BTS sensation Suga was announced as an NBA Global Ambassador, and the announcement post was the #2 most liked/retweeted content of all time on @NBA. While still a nascent market relative to the region, the pace of growth is incredibly promising thanks to Raul Sin, Soojeong Ahn, Helen Lee, and others. #nba #korea #baskeball #basketballneverstops #sports #sportsmedia #sportsbusiness #kpop

As many may know, Japanese sports culture is truly based on "Competition" and "Seriousness" . It is truly different from that of US, where professional and college sports is becoming more and more "Entertainment". The latter is surely making more money, and if you look at things in the order of capitalism , US may be the clear winner. However, if looking at this from a different lens, such as richness in culture, which would you prefer? I found a perfect video clip that explains the competitiveness/seriousness of Japanese sports (baseball), and would like to share! If there are anyone seeing that plans or would like to plan a visit to Japan to watch Japanese sports please let me know as I would love to know the interest!
