Given that the infections have risen to 16 confirmed cases, and sadly, 3 resultant deaths, it is vitally important that we understand what #mpox is and what to do. Have a look at the infographic below and remember to get in touch with your #healthcare provider immediately if you suspect you may have it.

On 14 August 2024, the Chief of the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the rise in mpox cases as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). This decision follows the advice from the International Health Regulations (IHR) Emergency Committee meeting.
Mpox cases are rapidly spreading across many countries in Africa, particularly in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and neighboring countries like Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. The potential for further spread in Africa is alarming, according to the WHO Chief.
In response to this urgent situation, I want to inform our partners that Vitro is prepared to assist with our solution: the Monkeypox Virus Real-Time PCR Kit (50 determinations).

Last week, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared Mpox an international health emergency due to the increasing outbreak and spread of the viral disease in parts of Africa. https://lnkd.in/dPkpUXkC
The significance of this declaration cannot be overstated. It evoked a dark past when the virus unmasked its ugly face two years ago in Africa, grasping worldwide attention. It does not stop there. Once again, Africa is reminded about the recently exceptionally inequitable response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Getting accurate information was complicated because Covid-19 was the first global pandemic in the social media era.
Consequently, multiple unique dynamics in health message dissemination and consumption laid bare a sharp contrast from the outdated remediation platforms for combating health misinformation.

We have a big Mpox problem in Sub Saharan Africa; not much (yet?) in USA. But some key details worth noting:
1. Most (13K of 15K) cases in Democratic Republic of Congo, but clearly not contained to DRC.
2. 3.3% fatality rate.
3. Children (<15 years of age)are 68% of cases and 85% of deaths.
4. This is infectious and we have a better handle on patterns of spread now, compared with 2022 when last major outbreak occurred.
5. It is good to see WHO taking this seriously; but it requires coordination of efforts to include vaccine manufacturers, health ministers, and community leaders to detect, treat, and prevent.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared mpox (previously called #Monkeypox) a global health emergency due to a growing outbreak in Africa, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
This new outbreak, caused by a more virulent strain of the virus known as clade 1b, has spread to several African countries for the first time. With over 15,000 suspected and confirmed cases and 537 deaths in Africa this year, the situation has raised significant concerns.
The emergency declaration aims to mobilize resources and coordinate an international response to contain the outbreak, which is spreading rapidly and affecting vulnerable populations, including children and pregnant women.
The virus was first discovered in 1958 during outbreaks among research monkeys, with the first human case recorded in 1970 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, followed by a global outbreak in 2022.

Let’s talk about revolutionizing Digital Health intervention for Cholera prevention in DRC and Africa.
In 2023, despite a preceding decline in cases, cholera resurged in the Democratic Republic of Congo, particularly in the conflict-affected eastern regions. The year 2013 witnessed a significant outbreak, with reported cases exceeding 41,000, resulting in 314 fatalities. This resurgence marked one of the most substantial cholera outbreaks globally. Establishing mechanisms for continuous evaluation and feedback loops will refine the digital health strategy based on real-world outcomes and changing circumstances. By implementing a comprehensive digital health strategy, the countries can enhance its capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to cholera outbreaks more effectively, ultimately improving public health outcomes. #cholera, #digitalhealth, #Telehealth, #Strategy. #uhc, #sustainability
