Check out my first publication: I'm excited to announce that my piece, "The Need to Reevaluate the Strickland v Washington Test for Ineffective Assistance of Counsel" was published in the Summer 2024 Edition of the Columbia Undergraduate Law Review. This paper examines the Strickland v. Washington test for the ineffective assistance of counsel, arguing that Stickland's key elements -- deficiency and prejudice -- inadequately protect defendants and thus violate the Sixth Amendment's guarantee of adequate assistance of counsel. I further argue that Strickland allows for inadequate attorney performance through broad application to structural issues rather than personal attorney ineffectiveness, thereby allowing pervasive structural problems within the United States criminal justice system to permeate. There is good advice here. Most important is to remember this is a snapshot in time of how you did with a particular set of circumstances on one day (or days) not necessarily a reflection of your capabilities and work ethic. Review, reflect, adjust, and move on.
