Today, 27 of the world’s largest nature conservation organizations, institutes, business and finance coalitions have come together to launch a new initiative to drive alignment and synergies across a multitude of actors who will advocate, support and implement actions towards a nature-positive outcome of halting and reversing nature loss by 2030. 'Nature positive by 2030’ refers to halting and reversing biodiversity loss by 2030 from a 2020 baseline, through measurable gains in the health, abundance, diversity and resilience of species, ecosystems, and natural processes. #naturepositive https://lnkd.in/gfZkja2e

"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man." - George Bernard Shaw. I am thrilled to have witnessed the power of that statement firsthand at the Unreasonable Impact Asia Pacific gathering last week. It was a privilege to engage with fellow investors, the incredible team from Unreasonable and Barclays, and a visionary group of entrepreneurs. It was filled with enriching discussions and innovative ideas, all aimed at tackling pressing climate and social issues in profitable ways. Each conversation left me more hopeful and excited for the future. 🌍 "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed individuals can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead. Looking forward to seeing the growth and innovations that will come from these promising companies. 🚀 #ImpactInvesting #Sustainability #Innovation Prosperity Impact

Unilever, one of the world’s biggest users of #plastic packaging, had previously committed to halve its use of virgin plastics by 2025. That target will now be one-third by 2026 — the difference accounting for more than 100,000 tons of fresh plastic annually. https://lnkd.in/g7pD2gPU

Targets and guidance must be backed by the best available science, transparent and credible reporting, and deep commitment by companies to implement 1.5C aligned targets throughout their operations and supply chains. Offsets cannot be a substitute for reducing emissions from company operations, products, and value chains. To support the radical transformation we need to see from companies, WWF has long advocated that carbon offsetting needs to be limited in its application to address a small percentage of residual emissions, be bolstered by increased accountability and pursued as part of a holistic and scientifically defined reduction pathway. https://lnkd.in/gPydc968

Science Based Targets initiative is under fire from staff after a decision to allow controversial carbon credits in dealing with emissions. A big concern among staff members is that these polluters and fossil fuel financiers could be given a green light to buy offsets rather than focus on cutting their own emissions. “This would not incentivise companies to reduce their emissions, it would be a perverse incentive to just buy cheaper carbon credits”. A recurring challenge in many NGOs is the opacity in decision-making processes, often bypassing consultation with experienced, on-the-ground staff who hold critical expertise.

The path to #NetZero is filled with obstacles, but with the collective determination and commitment shown this week at #OneEarthSummit, it's also filled with opportunities to redefine our legacy on Earth 🌏 It's been an honor serving on the Summits’ organising committee. Congratulations to Poman and the entire team on the tremendous success of the inaugural One Earth Summit—a collaborative effort by the World Economic Forum, Institute of Sustainability and Technology (IST) and the Hong Kong SAR government. We got to hear and meet an impressive assembly of world leaders, industry pioneers, and passionate advocates united to address the urgency of #ClimateChange. Reconnecting with old friends (and fellow panda Marco Lambertini) and meeting new ones with shared goals, has been a true highlight. 🌿 Please reach out to continue the conversation! #PlanetaryBoundary #Sustainability #ClimateAction #OneEarthOneDream #HongKong
