All the schools, combined, in our ESD region have 92,692 students. The state provided funding of $914,370,347. The true cost of educating these students was $1,153,960,634. The state shorted our region $239,590,287. -The average teacher salary in our region is $92,060, and the state only provides $77,000 per teacher for salaries. -The state provided our region with $125,587,635 in MSOC funding. The true expense was $173,095,902. The state provided our region with $81,212,734 for paraprofessional funding, but the true expense was $149,458,361. We need to do better. These kinds of funding shortfalls are not sustainable. Our Schools need help. Many schools are two years away from being placed in Binding Conditions or State Oversight. The last step is to Dissolve the District. Can you imagine your local school being dissolved?

CSBA is asking school district and county office of education board members across the state to help increase awareness and support for Proposition 2 — the Kindergarten through Grade 12 Schools and Local Community College Public Education Facilities Modernization, Repair, and Safety Bond Act of 2024 — by adopting a board resolution in support of the bond. CSBA has developed a sample resolution, available here: https://lnkd.in/et4z9Ube If passed, Prop 2 will generate $8.5 billion to fund facilities improvements at TK-12 public schools and another $1.5 billion for facilities upgrades at the state’s community colleges. School boards are critical to this effort and resolutions are one of the best ways to help demonstrate to the public that their board of education supports Prop 2. Please submit your district or county office of education’s resolution to CSBA by Oct. 11 to advocacy@csba.org. Resolutions will be used to help demonstrate the widespread support for Proposition 2 by those in the field.

College completion rates are well below state policymakers’ goals, especially for adult learners and low-income students. These students often struggle to complete education and training programs due to unmet basic needs, such as stable housing, adequate food and suitable child care for their children. In this webinar, NCSL staff will discuss college completion strategies that address students’ basic needs and learn from the experiences of two states. Register here: https://bit.ly/3SKj1XF

It is so frustrating, although sadly not surprising, that this has not considered the impact for those working in early years. There is a plethora of research that now exists to suggest the importance of early years 'education' for children's long-term wellbeing and development. Yet, the professionals who also work just as hard and just as tirelessly, often with less respect and less appreciation, to ensure the best start for our youngest children (and often their families) are an after thought at best and often not thought about at all. Well, not thought about unless it is to shore-up other systemic issues. The mental health of "all" educators should be a priority. Education begins in the early years with passionate, committed and knowledgeable professionals who are also subject to these judgements, it is not something that exists solely in schools. Real change is needed if we are to work towards addressing the staffing crisis that many settings face. It starts with respect in language at policy level, for instance "early years education and care" not just "childcare" and continues into wider issues such as this, where the needs of the sector are ignored and professionals undervalued. I think early years professionals deserve better and actually so do children and their families.
"While we welcome the Committee’s call for an alternative to one-word judgments, it is both disappointing and incredibly frustrating that the inquiry’s scope only focused on school inspections." The Education Select Committee has published its report into Ofsted inspections, in which it calls for the one-word judgements to be replaced. However, the scope of the Committee's inquiry only included schools. You can read the Committee's key recommendations and the Alliance's reaction here: bit.ly/3Uk2fkH

Update: DFE Sign-in There’s been a recent change within the DFE Sign-in about the new Check a Teacher’s Record service. Here’s some information to help: The service searches the same records as Employer Access, including teachers and non-teaching professionals with a TRN. It does not include the section 128 list of individuals prohibited from managing or governing schools. For that list, visit GOV.UK at: https://lnkd.in/eQ9Z25V5 Unlike Employer Access, the new service doesn’t have separate lists of prohibited teachers. You can search by last name and date of birth without needing a TRN. If no record is found, the person is not on a prohibited list.
