There are many variables when it comes to defensive firearm use. The absolute main purpose is self protection. Anything else is a secondary or tertiary. Including your immediate family. Carrying a concealed weapon is for immediate use for self defense. No one else is in the equation. With that variable alone, we must come to understand how to 1) use our firearm effectively, 2) utilize the holster we are concealing with, 3) draw from the holster, 4) understand the environment and our surroundings. Agree or disagree?

Agreed, but not very many have adopted this….or know how. Semper Fi🤘🇺🇸

Great topic for discussion, and it may depend on the state (or one of the commonwealths). Ie, here in Texas it falls under Penal Code Section 9.33 which states “a person is justified in using force or deadly force against another to protect a third person” when…1) you believe the force is immediately necessary, 2) to protect that third person against the use, or attempted use, of unlawful force, and 3) you reasonably believe your intervention is required to protect that person. Now, I’m definitely not an attorney and nor would I recommend using the above as a defense should something go sideways with self-protection. More just my $.02 on the above penal code of that I’ve spoken with multiple Texas attorneys that have (mostly) given me the same general answer, of which is yes I can defend a family member from attack by using deadly force as long as it’s justified (of which “justified” is always interpreted differently, and sometimes not in our favor). All of that being said, common sense always tells me using deadly force is always the last option and my first and best option is to get me and my family off the X as soon as yesterday if things have the potential to go south.

I would add clothing selection as a basic, too. It makes a difference for firearm and holster selection.

We put a lot of focus on mechanics of shooting, but I think there needs to be even more focus put on when to draw the pistol in the first place. Being vigilant and having sound judgment is way more important than shot groupings.
