🌱Supporting the Mental Health of the Younger Generation🌱 Mental health is a critical issue for the younger generation, with recent studies showing that over 60% of Gen Z report feelings of sadness or anxiety. These challenges significantly impact their performance at home, in school, and at work. Key Strategies for Support: Open Communication: Fostering environments where mental health discussions are normalized can reduce stigma and encourage help-seeking behaviors. Access to Resources: Providing mental health resources—such as counseling services in schools and workplaces—is essential for support. Work-Life Balance: Flexible schedules and mental health days can help young individuals manage stress and maintain well-being. Educational Programs: Integrating mental health literacy into curricula equips students with vital coping skills. By addressing mental health holistically across home, education, and the workplace, we can empower the younger generation to thrive. #MentalHealth #GenZ #WorkplaceWellness #Education

Mental health training plays a crucial role in building effective communication and trust with children, especially in challenging environments. Through active listening and communication skills sessions, teachers and para-social workers learned how simple actions like maintaining eye contact, practicing empathy, and listening without interruption can create a safe space for children to express themselves. Role-plays helped participants, like those from Kibate PS, realize the power of non-verbal cues, while para-social workers from Nabweya PS learned the value of listening without immediately offering solutions. These insights have proven transformative in building rapport and trust, making children feel heard and supported. The importance of creating child-friendly environments, applying basic counseling principles, and ensuring confidentiality were emphasized, allowing participants to practice real-life scenarios in a safe space. This type of mental health training not only equips educators and social workers with tools to support vulnerable children but also underscores the need for self-care in maintaining emotional resilience. #MentalHealth #ActiveListening #ChildSafety

Youth need opportunities to identify and develop their strengths and fill their toolboxes with skills to handle life stressors. Research has indicated that youth who can name their strengths and values and affirm their positive characteristics have reduced stress levels and an increased positive outlook on life. They can aspire to growth and well-being with positive experiences to develop these skills for resilience. In this session, adults working with youth will learn how stress affects learning and the importance of connecting with students using positive characteristics. Participants will actively participate in activities they can take and use to teach youth the skills needed to lessen the stressors in their lives and identify their innate strengths.
