In an April 17, 2024 analyst call held by Rahul Patel, General Manager of the #Qualcomm Connectivity, Broadband, and Networking business unit he said its technological foundation rests on "three major technological pillars, unrivaled connectivity, a high-performance, low-power computing, and leading-edge intelligence." Leadership in the pivotal areas of 5G and Wi-Fi are key to executing on the plans in these areas. Acknowledging the evolving broadband market, Qualcomm is future proofing broadband markets which are effectively consolidatinge around #5G, fixed wireless access, and fiber. The approach continues to steer clear of the dwindling copper and cable segments. Patel also shared several updates on product innovations shared, including., fully integrated 5G fixed access platform with millimeter-wave capability, and connectivity scaling up to 10 gigabits per second. More than 300 design projects are underway, said Patel, part of Qualcomm's market acceptance process. "AI at the edge is getting baked into to all products," said Patel, with Qualcomm proceeding with antenna technology which rotates to attune itself to optimize the connection. "The customer does not have to worry about where the antenna is facing. It's ultimately going to adjust on its own and that's the neural level, AI, that helps make it happen," he said. Wi-Fi 7 was just approved by the Wi-Fi Alliance in January 2014, and Qualcomm is celebrating its rapid adoption and certification of its #WiFI7 offering. Patel noted, "We are at over 450 designs in the process of getting launched." On the regulatory side, Patel said he expected a proliferation of Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) solutions expanding the Wi-Fi ecosystem as more and more regulatory regions approve AFC. Patel linked the expanded Wi-Fi and IoT-style connectivity capabilities to a maturing of the IoT connectivity ecosystem. Qualcomm's a dual-band micro-power Wi-Fi uses 88% lower power consumption is positioned as a game-changer, he said, and directly challenges #Bluetooth's dominance in #IoT connectivity.
