As the new school year begins, it’s a prime opportunity for churches to connect with families and the broader community. Here are a few strategies to consider: 1. Host a Back-to-School Event: Organize a fun and welcoming event to bring families together. Consider offering free school supplies or a community barbecue. 2. Volunteer at Local Schools: Encourage your congregation to volunteer in classrooms, after-school programs, or sports events. 3. Offer Tutoring and Mentorship Programs: Provide academic support and mentorship for students who need extra help. 4. Community Partnerships: Partner with local businesses and organizations to create programs that benefit the community. For instance, run a school supply campaign and help students who may need resources. Or host study nights at a local coffee shop. Pastors, how is your church planning to engage with the community this school year? Share your thoughts and ideas in the comments below! #CommunityEngagement #ChurchOutreach #BackToSchool

30+ years in “Assisting families in navigating their secondary and post secondary journey in a practical and holistic manner”.
Family and community engagement greatly increases the likelihood that students will learn and thrive. Students are more prepared for school, more likely to achieve, and more likely to graduate when they are supported by schools, families, and communities working together in a coordinated manner. This 5th in our 6-part series of Family Academy will focus on the most impactful member of the support team for the child … “the parent”. You will hear from parents who have gone through the process of advocating for their child through middle school, high school, and college …

September is Attendance Awareness Month! Although attendance is everyone's business everyday, September is the month we get to really celebrate just being present! We can't talk graduation without attendance, we can't advocate for high-dosage tutoring if students don't show up, we can't change challenging behaviors if students aren't present to see good behaviors modeled. What will you do to encourage school attendance with your platform? Ideas: Systems and schools - can promote an attendance awareness campaign. Elected officials - can sign proclamations declaring September as Attendance Awareness Month AND participate in attendance campaigns with their constituents. Business owners - can donate incentives and time to support attendance initiatives as well as post support of regular school attendance in their establishments. Community-based volunteer organizations - can volunteer to be attendance mentors. Encourage students and families with canvas walks, community events, and assisting schools with welcome back phone calls (let's be real, a personal welcome back is much more effective than a blanket robo call). I'll share more ideas as we get closer to September and also during the Louisiana Attendance Alliance CWA monthly call in August. #BeMindfulBePresent #ChronicAbsence > #Truancy #Attendance #Engagement #Partnership

There are numerous examples of excellent #schoolleaders positively transforming what goes on inside the school fence without it impacting on the school’s #reputation in the #community. The sad thing about this is that many prospective parents will be more influenced by the reputation of the school in the community than by what the school has to offer their children. . Read our blog below to find out why REPUTATION always wins. . https://lnkd.in/gzGxScRu

Exciting News for educators and others working directly with youth! 🌟 ThinkGive is a MA-based nonprofit that offers SEL programs that empower elementary and middle school youth (K-8) to consider other perspectives, build meaningful connections with a wide range of people, and cultivate the belief they can positively impact their own lives and the lives of others. Students who have participated in their program report strong increases in feelings of connection, belonging, self-esteem, and empowerment. "...revolution begins with the self and in the self.” -Toni Cade Bambara This quarter, I encourage us to explore community, service, and the act of giving back. 1. What and who make up your community? 2. What is your role in that community? 3. What roles do you take outside of your community? 4. Are there any expectations or responsibilities that come with your role in and out of your community? 5. What are ways you can give back to your community? Can your role in the community leverage the ability to give back? I challenge us to explore these questions and create an action item to GIVE BACK. Let's continue to challenge for a better path for ourselves AND acknowledge where we're able to pave paths in kind. #thoughtfulthursday #community #service

Minister of Students & Sports Outreach | Helping the church reach & disciple the next generation | Connecting the local church to the community
Community engagement is vital for church growth. According to some studies, 96% of church growth comes through transfer memberships. It's vital to engage with our communities to push back the darkness. Two ways to engage the community: Involvement in local schools - our children's and student ministires are involved in some way weekly in 15+ schools. We regularly connect with those who are unchurched. We serve and show the love of Christ. Find ways to serve your public schools and they ask you to be further involved. Sports - 92% of children by the age of 12 will play some sort of sport. If your church doesn't do recreation then get involved in the local recreation department and use that as a platform for the gospel. Find creative ways to get outside the walls of the church and get involved with those you are trying to reach. Consistent community engagement with the gospel will lead to salvations and ultimately church growth apart from transfer membership. #CommunityEngagement #ChurchGrowth
