It's interesting to see how many pubs report highly engaging pieces on last mile. Supply Chain Dive picked this up which was originally written on CFO Dive. Additionally, CX Dive has been writing more on this too. Top of mind for decision-makers/influences across the board.

POWERFUL FULFILLMENT HUBS FOR DIGITAL ORDERS Since 🎯 Target's introduction of stores as hubs in 2017, the model has more than tripled their digital business. With 75% of the US population within 10 miles of their stores, Target can deliver very rapidly to most of the population within a day. Now their next evolution is to deliver faster and cheaper. The build upon that is the introduction of the sortation centers. These facilities take in inventory from 30 to 40 stores depending on the market for last-mile delivery. The physical movement of inventory is powered by technology that creates the ability for them to ship packages to guests through either a national carrier, a local injection into the postal service, or using last-mile delivery drivers to deliver it just within a few hours to the front door. Last year, Target delivered 26M packages and are on pace to double that number this year. #lastmiledelivery #orderfulfillment John M. Walmart indeed uses concepts of supply chain to its advantage. However, its leverage is to squeeze manuacturers and if cannot squeeze it finds production off shore to destroy Western manufacturing ? What society needs is leverage for the manufacturer to use lead time based pricing and overall high property plant and equipment capacity synchronzation to make Western Build to Order manufacturing way more cost competitive then the Asian / China build to stock manufacturing Wall Mart levers ! Time for empowering manufacturers to conrol the narrative not and then lever scale in distribution to societies advantage ! If you doubt my comment look at our trade inbalance, look at loss of jobs and carrers in manufacturing, look at distruction of smalller communities when their manufacturing plant leave for Asia ! There are simple ways to have both a successful Wal-Mart and a robust "making things" / manufacutring culture in the West !
