The catalyst for creating CONNECT stemmed from a realization that various entities were tackling a singular issue or path intervention in isolation. Back then, our definition of an NP market disruptor included: Understands what is driving change in health care, especially in primary care access. Sees the NP full-practice authority (FPA) struggle in broader regulatory & economic markets context: the classic competition battle. Identifies business models available to NPs and the skill sets needed to survive. Develops confidence in the business case for NPs as independent practitioners. Eight years later, can we declare “mission accomplished!”? Yes, and no…   As the numbers of primary care physicians were falling, the number of advanced practice (non-physician) providers in the workforce were exploding: The Advanced Practice Providers (APP) numbers would suggest that APPs, specifically NPs, would be stepping up to fill physician vacancies, especially in the half of the 50 states that have legislated FPA. But even in the FPA states, nurse-led practice growth is slow.   For eight years we have been building a community of like-minded NP entrepreneurs who do not turn away from the opportunity to solve the US.A.’s primary care access crisis. “The technology we started using from the very beginning has evolved over time, but it’s really brought a lot of transparency to the families we work with. They can log in and see what caregiver is coming, what they did on their last shift, and what the care plan looks like. All of that information is available at their fingertips to help them keep track. We’ve worked with a lot of families where the adult children live out of state and we're caring for their mom or dad. They can't always be here and be as involved as they probably wish that they could. Having all of this information electronically available to them makes them feel like they're still part of the process and they're able to stay up to speed with the care their parents are receiving and how things are progressing.” Just as 2nd Family explains the use of technology to help with things like increased transparency and efficiency, there is a broader trend of technology-enhancing operations across industries, ultimately improving customer experience and engagement. Even businesses that you might consider “boring old businesses” are doing exciting things with technology.  We cover many current and relevant topics. 3:16 AM Reality Check As I wait for my localhost to run OnMedCare after making some improvements, my mind starts to wander. Flashbacks of my research on competitors flood my thoughts. They're almost delivering the same service as OnMedCare. Fear and doubt creep in, threatening to overwhelm me. In this moment, I'm reminded that faith and hope can only take us so far. Reality checks are necessary to ground us. It's easy to get caught up in our vision, but what about the obstacles ahead? To all the entrepreneurs and innovators out there, I ask: How do you handle the fear of competition? The pressure to constantly innovate? The weight of uncertainty? Let's be real - it's scary out there. But it's in these moments that we discover our resilience. Our ability to adapt, to pivot, and to push forward.
