#Indigenous knowledge is paramount to ensure safety, as traditional experiences can help inform decisions moving forward. 

Imagine a future Arctic that is vibrant in its ecosystems, culture and economy? There was a lot of talk about a future vision for the Arctic at the recent Arctic Ecounters Sympoisum in Anchorage https://lnkd.in/d84CyUQa. The future is not written, we have the power to shape the future we want and dont have to accept a version others may want to impose. Articulating those visions is key - I wrote down mine here https://lnkd.in/dQFFRdT7 (pages 229-239).

From Gudjugudju's welcome to country onwards the Reef Resilience Symposium delivered inspiration and realistic hope, reminding us that we are one "family" that needs to point in the same direction, and helping us all cope a little better with the very real challenges facing the world's coral reefs and all who depend on them. A huge thank you to all those who made the Reef Resilience Symposium happen, the sponsors who made the event free to participate in person or online, the tireless organisers who made everything work and to all of the participants who collectively reminded us of the creativity, hard work and dedication that is being deployed to secure a better future for the Great Barrier Reef, and the other 90% of coral reefs around the world. Coming together, particularly when reefs are under acute stress, is important for us all to build our resolve and focus on actions that will tilt the balance in favour of the reef ecosystems we know and love.. While there's no magic wand solution, protecting Reef resilience by enhancing existing and developing new tools is critical while we all work to mitigate and adapt to climate change. I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of coral voices... ... suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. Going on Obi-Wan mode, because #climatechange due to our burning of fossil fuels is an extinction level event for tropical #coralreefs and many other ecosystems critical for our planetary life support system. Yet, the most important global conference on coral reef #restoration is held in person only, with no virtual option to present research and participate in real time. Besides the fossil fuel emissions from all the conference travel, this approach is discriminatory and ableist. The world is on fire, and the coral reef community has yet to wake up and smell the burning. Let's do better and join the 21st century.
