Terms & Conditions for Russia Surrendering to Ukraine! 🇺🇦 I wrote this semi-satirical piece in January, 2011. It took a while but it looks like we’re one step closer today. Should Russia ever tire of its romantic, imperialistic delusions? Why not help Russia out allowing it to be annexed i.e. to become part of Ukraine? This would take a lot of pressure off the overwhelmed Russians as they would no longer have to polish (pardon the pun) their image and suffer the endless expansion-contraction-expansion loop. https://lnkd.in/gd5Fv6pY

Understanding Global Events: The Connections Ever wondered about the threads linking today's complex global landscape? Recent events – the Russia-Ukraine conflict, military coups in Africa, and the Israel-Hamas clash – might appear isolated, but there are intriguing connections. Russia's Role: Russia's involvement is a common thread. It's at the heart of the Ukraine conflict, expanding influence in Africa, and backing groups in the Middle East, including Hamas. Why? It's a web of strategic interests, global influence, and resources. Power Dynamics: These events reflect global power struggles. The West, led by the US and NATO, condemns Russia's actions while also playing roles in Africa and the Middle East. Supporting Israel in self-defense adds another layer to this complex global chessboard. Local Factors: Beyond global politics, local factors play crucial roles. Ukraine's history and culture shape its conflict, and African coups arise from fragile democracies and external influences. The Israel-Hamas dispute is deeply rooted in historical and cultural tensions. Intricacies surround these events, but one glaring concern is the ever-present specter of terrorism. As we delve into these complexities, let's not forget the perilous impact terrorism has on our world. full article on https://lnkd.in/dhsitjk2 #GlobalEvents #TerrorismAwareness #ConnectTheDots

Finland´s president - arming Ukraine means peace Finland´s youthful new president Alexander Stubb, with close family ties to Russian occupied Karelia - Карелия - that once encompassed the historical Swedish Ingermanland region, makes it clear that arming Ukraine is a pre-requisite for peace in Europe. If Russia wins this war, it will only trigger its appetite for more. Giving territory away to any aggressor is a wasteful gesture for so-called "peace for our time"! History teaches us it is an ignorant re-run of the totalitarian temptation from the 1930´s! American continuous supremacy will depend on preserving its allies and protecting them as they protect America world-wide. Without the allies America is never "first" but strikingly alone and desolate. https://lnkd.in/dwmMtjQZ

In her report, Topchubashov Center's intern Sabrina Conzato has explored political context around Georgia's breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia which has been actively changing since the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The report covers the fragile security dynamic around the quasi-republics, Moscow's political and economic interests towards them as well as their own narratives, Georgia's position and the role of Turkiye as the country with strong historical ties to Abkhazia. https://lnkd.in/eCsk4PnB

The future of the #Ukraine conflict | Why #Russia Is Grinding Forward In Ukraine? In July 2023 President Biden declared that Putin had already lost the war in Ukraine. In the spring of 2024, however, the situation is less clear. While Ukraine has defined victory as the complete liberation of its territory, the West promises to support Ukraine as long as it takes, without a clear definition. But how do we define as long as it takes? What kind of support does Ukraine need to win? What would be the consequences if the support were to stop? Watch Igli Hasani, Kaja Kallas, Samir Saran, Timothy Snyder, Dmytro Kuleba, and Jim Sciutto in conversation.

https://lnkd.in/g2xh_hJB “[Y]ou said we’re about to be in 1939. I’m going to agree with you in a certain way. My comparison would be 1938: This is 1938, but Czechoslovakia has chosen to fight. Czechoslovakia has chosen to fight. So you have an imperfect democracy: It’s the furthest democracy in Eastern Europe. It’s not perfect; it has various problems. But when threatened by a larger neighbor, it chooses to resist. In that world, where Czechoslovakia resists, there is no Second World War. The Czechs had a good army. They could have held the Germans back. It was largely a bluff on the German side. If the Czechs resist, then the French and the British – and maybe the Americans – start to help: There would have been a conflict, but there wouldn’t have been a Second World War. When Germany invaded Poland in 1939, it was invading Poland with the Czech armaments industry – which was the best in the world – it was invading with Slovak soldiers, it was invading from a geographical position that it only gained because it destroyed Czechoslovakia. So, if the Ukrainians give up – or if we give up Ukraine – or then it’s a different russia making war in the future: It’s a russia making war with Ukrainian technology, with Ukrainian soldiers, from a different geographical position. Then we’re in 1939. We’re in 1938 now. In effect, what the Ukrainians are letting us do, is they’re letting us extend 1938. They’re helping us to stay out of 1939. So, my answer is no: It’s not inevitable. The Ukrainians are giving us this chance; and we have to take this chance, if we want to prevent a great power war.” – Timothy Snyder. Richard C. Levin Professor of History at Yale University; permanent fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna. #ukraine #secondworldwar #wwii #easterneurope #europeanunion #nato
