While GLP-1 medications like Wegovy and Zepbound are highly effective tools for weight loss, they raise an important consideration: muscle preservation. Weight loss at the expense of lean muscle can lead to future challenges, including reduced basal metabolic rate, decreased strength, lower bone density, and increased risk of weight recurrence. I recently spoke with Medical News Today about the link between GLP-1 medications and muscle loss, who is most at risk, and the strategies to preserve muscle mass. "The key to healthy, sustainable weight loss is maintaining protein intake and nutrition, performing regular resistance exercise, and staying consistent." For anyone on a GLP-1, integrating strength training, prioritizing protein, and consistency are non-negotiables for long-term success. https://lnkd.in/gtPJANTE

OlaZenith: Enhancing Insulin Sensitivity as Part of a Healthier You If you may notice, recently, medications like Ozempic have made headlines for their impact on insulin sensitivity. But what if a natural alternative could offer similar benefits? While pharmaceutical options are gaining popularity, the question remains: can nature provide a supportive hand in this area? Clinical studies on Oleoylethanolamide (OEA), the key component in OlaZenith, suggest a resounding yes. 🔬 Here's where the science gets exciting: a controlled clinical trial (125 mg daily for 8 weeks) showed that OEA supplementation significantly reduced blood glucose, insulin levels, insulin resistance, and HbA1c – all pivotal for insulin sensitivity. [1] But it doesn't stop there; OEA also lowered CRP levels, suggesting a positive impact on inflammation, which often accompanies insulin resistance. 🤔 How does OlaZenith work its magic? OEA, synthesized in our bodies from oleic acid, activates PPAR-α and boosts GLP-1 secretion, which are integral in regulating satiety and insulin sensitivity. This natural approach aligns with the body's own mechanisms, offering a harmonious path to improved metabolic health. Join us as we continue to explore and share the science behind OlaZenith's benefits. In a world saturated with quick fixes, we believe in the power of nature and the strength of scientific backing. Whether you're a health enthusiast or simply looking for a natural way to support your body's needs, OlaZenith is here to be your partner in wellness. Stay tuned for more as we decode the science of health and bring you insights into the natural solutions that can make a real difference. Pharmacists are key in helping patients avoid food-drug interactions that can compromise treatment efficacy. Did you know that foods rich in vitamin K, like leafy greens, can interfere with warfarin therapy, altering INR levels? Likewise, grapefruit can increase the bioavailability of drugs like statins, potentially leading to adverse effects. For patients on anticoagulants or statins, pharmacists review their diet and advise on moderation of certain foods that can affect drug metabolism or therapeutic outcomes. Stay sharp on these interactions for optimal patient care!

Innovative Strategy: Combating Muscle Loss in GLP-1 Weight Loss Treatment I wrote this article for my office. The article discusses the innovative strategies we have developed to address muscle loss associated with GLP-1 receptor agonist medications used for weight loss. While GLP-1 drugs are effective for weight reduction, they can lead to undesirable muscle mass loss. PurForm's approach combines various methods to mitigate this issue, including the use of essential amino acids, particularly branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), Berberine, Urolithin A, NAD+ supplementation, green tea extract, and specific peptides. The article also mentions the potential benefits of low-dose naltrexone (LDN) and intermittent hypoxia therapy (IHT) in preserving muscle mass during weight loss. These strategies aim to support muscle preservation, enhance metabolic health, and improve overall treatment outcomes for individuals using GLP-1 medications. Enjoy the article. JP

Wizard of Lightbulb Moments: As weight loss medications like Ozempic continue to widen their reach, there's a growing concern over the high patient dropout rates. This trend raises an important question: why is the drive to discontinue therapy stronger than the desire to achieve weight loss? Understanding these underlying factors is critical for developing more effective and lasting treatments. Conducting follow-up research to explore these drivers could unlock insights that lead to more successful therapies and better patient outcomes. Follow Culinary Tides, Inc. for more insights. #FoodIndustry #Ozempic #WeightLoss #CulinaryTides #PatientAdherence #TherapySuccess Here is a glimpse of this trend: As Weight Loss Pharma Widens Its Reach, Nutrition Brands Vie For Position Ozempic, a weight loss drug, and other similar medications are facing challenges as up to 66% of users stop taking them within the first year. While SP Nutraceuticals CEO Contardo sees similarities in dynamics between Alli and Ozempic-like drugs, he notes recent reports of muscle and hair loss alongside well-known gastric side effects add complexity. Prime Therapeutics reported that only 32% of patients stuck with the drug for a full year, and headlines about rapid weight regain after discontinuation have also surfaced.
