When it comes to connecting two prestressed concrete members, two common methods are used: lapping and coupler. While both methods have their advantages and disadvantages, a cost comparison is essential to determine the most economical solution. *Lapping:* Lapping involves overlapping two prestressed concrete members and securing them with high-strength bars or wires. *Coupler:* Coupler involves using a mechanical device to connect two prestressed concrete members. *Cost Comparison:* Based on the material, labor, and equipment costs, the following cost comparison can be made: - Material cost: Lapping is generally more expensive than coupler due to the requirement of high-strength bars or wires. - Labor cost: Coupler requires specialized labor for installation, which can increase labor costs. Lapping labor costs are relatively lower. - Equipment cost: Coupler requires specialized equipment, which can be expensive. Lapping equipment costs are relatively lower.
